Had my surgery April 19th 2017 with Dr Gagner. I can only say the very best about Dr Gagner and the staff at his clinic! Dr Gagner is incredibly experienced kind and knowledgeable doctor! He's staff is equally kind and professional!
I felt very fortunate to have my surgery done by Dr Gagner and his staff!

I had VSG surgery on November 12, 2015 and am very pleased with Dr. Gagner and all of his staff. His bed side manner was fantastic, he checked up on us before he left for the night and was back to check up on us early the next morning. He also came to check up on me during my stay in the hotel and answered all questions I had. I do not live in Quebec but the after care has been great. A week post op I was suprised to see an email from Dr. Gagner making sure I was doing well, and this email was sent from his person email not from a staff member. He is an absolute amazing surgeon, I've had no complications and the incision sites are small and fading away nicely. I would highly recommend Dr. Gagner. This surgery was the best decision of my life and I am glad I chose such an amazing surgeon.

I can not say enough good things about Dr, Gagner, not only is he the best bariatric surgeon in the world but he is very personable, friendly and has excellent bedside manners. He responds to all questions quickly and thoroughly, and he explains the procedure and risks very well. Unlike a lot of other clinics, Dr. Gagner requires full pre-op testing including a lung x-ray and gastroendoscopy.
I have been looking into having bariatric surgery for three years now, and I was referred to Dr. Gagner by my family Doctor. There was a very short wait time to see Dr. Gagner, I could have had surgery within a month of first speaking with him. I chose to have the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, and Dr. Gagner is the surgeon who pioneered this procedure for WLS so I can not think of a better surgeon to do it. I am now three days post op and I am feeling great, I have absolutely no pain and I have not taken any pain medication since the day after surgery. The only pain I had was in the first 24 hours, some pressure on my back and abdomen mostly due to gas pains, but it was very manageable. I have been up and walking around the neighbourhood and have progressed to drinking full fluids with no complications or nausea.
Dr. Gagner made my stomach into a 40 ml sleeve, he said it is about the size of a 38F bougie and that it will stretch to 80ml in two years. No complications, no drains and catheters. All of my incisions were stitched from the inside and they are barely noticeable.
The WSSC clinic was very nice, all the staff were very friendly, helpful and caring. They went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and at ease. The anesthesiologist was great, he did my IV quickly, painlessly and is very thorough and caring. That was a first time for me, I have had very bad IV experiences in the past as I have deep veins but he knew exactly what he was doing and it only took one poke to find my vein.
We stayed in the clinic overnight, and afterwards we had a nurse for 24 hours in the hotel as provided by Dr. Gagner. Dr. Gagner visited us after the surgery, the next morning, and in the hotel.
The cost of surgery with Dr. Gagner is very reasonable for such professionalism and not having to leave the country.
I would recommend Dr. Gagner and his staff to anyone considering WLS surgery, especially if you want to have surgery in Canada, I would also recommend that you come to Montreal a couple days early, take some time to explore this beautiful city and enjoy the fantastic restaurants while you still can lol!

I started my foray into a surgical alternative for my obesity in 2012 at 255 pounds. I had a laparoscopic vertical sleeve gasterectomy accomplished by Dr. Michel Gagner January 2 nd 2013. My first impression of Dr. Gagner was that he was interested in me from the git go. My first telephone conversation with him lasted about 30 minutes. He even called me back when we were disconnected. My admiration of him as a humanitarian and prodigal surgeon grew with each conversation and meeting. Veronique, his assistant, is more than competent, bubbly and supportive. You should know that Dr. Gagner is attentive, caring and available. He delights in his profession and the blessings it can bring to others (if they take advantage of the tools he offers). He is very honest about risks and benefits and that this surgery is just a tool. He is right. That is all it is. That is however, what made the difference for me. I took his advise very seriously. I am currently at 160.1 lbs a little over 6 months post-op. Overall, I would rate Dr. Michel Gagner on a scale of 1 to 10 at 1000+. I cannot speak highly enough of his caring and professional skills. So, which is better, his bedside manner or surgical competence? Well, if you would like both, choose Dr Michel Gagner and you will be in the very best of hands! S.D

I had surgery on june 25th, a sleeve, performed by Dr Gagner. I have only good things to say about this surgeon, and all his team at Westmount surgical center. I would do this over again without hesitation, knowing how good he is in his field is reassuring, there is no "trying to sell you on something", everything is quick and efficient, he answers questions rapidly and he is concise. The nurses were amazing, the fact that we go to a hotel after the surgery is so much better than staying in the clinic, so much more relaxing, almost feels like home! Fridge was full of jell-o, chicken broth, water.... Thanks to Dr Gagner!

I had my surgery on the 9th of October at the Westmount Square Surgical Centre in Montreal. My surgeon is Dr Michel Gagner and he did a fabulous job. I feel 100 times better than before surgery and this was true as of a few days after. I had no pain and no complications. I was able to drink, pass urine, have BMs and function normally almost within 48 hours post op. didn't need pain meds since 12 hours post op. not even a tylenol. No drains or catheters, no headaches, nothing! I feel great! Have already been to the gym and going back to work on Monday. The best part is that my diabetes is already in remission and my PCP has lowered my blood pressure meds already! Dr Gagner has been nothing short of perfect for me. He was always ready to answer all my questions, and answers emails within seconds most of the time. I am a very informed patient, having done much research on this surgery and I come from a family of doctors. dr Gagner's answers and his philosophy with regard to this surgery matched my expectations perfectly. His assistant Veronique is also very nice and very helpful. The care I received was professional and focused on my healing and my needs. I will be eternally grateful to Dr Gagner and his entire team.

I have not yet had my surgery so perhaps it is early to write a review but I think the technical part is just a part of the process and there I really don't have any worries with Dr Gagner's skill. So I will write about my contact with him so far which has been excellent. He is a world expert and a very busy surgeon and researcher. I am sure he does not need a marketing manager to attract patients! Yet when Iwrote him, he immediately replied and called me. We exchanged emails and then met when he was travelling near to where I live. In talking with him he is so far perfect. Listens, takes time to explain, answers sometimes dreadfully silly questions...gives the risks and benefits and is very ready to work on a very individualized approach. I will update post surgery! Hope he does as well in the operating theatre as he has done out of it so far. Then there will not be sufficient stars in the rating option!!!

I sought out Dr. Gagner for the DS procedure and found him to be extremely competent, caring and compassionate. My surgery was performed at the Westmount Surgical Centre on August 28, 2012 and the care I received was incredible. I was treated like a member of the family from the moment I walked into the clinic to the time I was told I could make the journey back to Ottawa.

The one thing I have found a bit difficult is the lack of a structured aftercare program. It has been challenging to figure out the post-op eating and vitamin regimen on my own and I will only find out how well I have done in that respect when I get my first labs after the first three months.

I have absolutely no regrets and would highly recommend this avenue to people in Ontario that want the DS and are willing to self pay. Dr. Gagner and his team have given me a new lease on life and I will be forever grateful for their assistance.

Here is my story with Dr. Gagner. I emailed Dr. Gagner about a self pay revision around the 1st of Dec 2011. He asked for my phone number and called me at work the next morning. He said he could do my revision for $20,000. He said he could do it laproscopically and take out my gallbladder (I have stones) as well. He had his nurse Veronique contact me via email back and forth after that. For the last two weeks of December I jumped through all kinds of hoops! Dr. Gagner said if I would have the funds ($20,000) wired to him by Dec. 29th, he would schedule me for Jan 4th surgery. I paid for expedited shipping to get my esophageal he ordered on disc sent to him. I also had EKG, labs, barium x-ray and several other requests done just so I could have the surgery on January 4th. On Friday, Dec. 30th around noon, he emailed me and postponed my surgery. He said his anesthesiologist was still on vacation. He was teaching in Hawaii for the next 3 weeks and had other obligations after that. The next surgery date he gave me was Feb. 15th, 2012. Ok, I cancel the hotel room, change my Sprint account back to non international roaming, changed my airline tickets to Feb 15th, which leaves a United Airlines credit of $400 that I have a year to use, change EVERYTHING at work to prepare for a later surgery date and postpone EMR till a later date. Practically the mental anguish was so much that I cried for several days. He kept my $20,000 waiting for 2/15/12 surgery date. I rescheduled everything and once again had all of my ducks in a row! Wednesday, February 8th, one week before surgery, he did it again!!! Sent me the ever-so compassionate email that he was going to have to cancel again. This time he offered to refund my money! I left work that day crying so hard because I just could not believe he would do me that way again! I asked him to call me but he would not. He gave me the same song and dance about not being able to get an anesthesiologist from McGill University to perform the surgery. He said it would be about two months before he could get the administration issues resolved. I am now looking into other options for the DS surgery. I wanted to warn everyone about him. I did get $20,000 back on Friday (thank God) but now I have a $1233 United Airlines credit when I really need the money instead. My advise to you is stay clear of this one or you'll be in for a lot of heartache. Word is he's skipped out all together!

Dr. Gagner can be a little more difficult than some surgeons to deal with because he does not have a staff and is pretty much only available by email and for those of us in the U.S. using him means a trip out of the country. That being said, he is in my experience the absolute best bariatric surgeon available. He completed my revision from open RNY (Fobi Pouch) with silastic ring to VSG LAPROSCOPICALLY. Most surgeons can't even do this open and the ones that can still have high complication rates especially with leaks in the new sleeve. To do this laproscopically is amazing. Basically the only surgeon's I've found who can do this are Dr. Gagner or one of his former students or asscociates that he proctored. I am glad to have been fortunate enough to have the master himself. In and out of the hospital in 2 days and walking around Montreal on the fourth day, that is just incredible for any surgery much less such a complicated revision. If you need your hand held this is not the guy for you, but if you want arguably the best surgeon available anywhere in the world, I wouldn't hesitate to use Dr. Gagner.
