He was caring and friendly. All the staff was great and supportive. He is right to the point and doesn't waste time with you. He won't perform the surgery if there is any risk of problems. But he knows how much this surgery is needed and wanted and does everything he can to give you a good result. My only disappointment would be that on the surgery date and after in the hospital, I only saw him once. His fellows and students took care of me while he oversaw my care.

I was very impressed with his patience, bedside manner and eye contact. He was very respectful and thorough. His office is well run. He is part of a group of surgeons at UCLA Medical Center. He has a very structured program with support groups and aftercare. Overall I am looking forward to continuing my patient doctor relationship.

Up to this point (5 days pre-op) I've only met Dr. Dutson once - but I was immediately put at ease. He answered any and all questions that I had without hesitation and his track record is impeccable. I have absolutely no worries at all about the care I'll be receiving.

Very nice.
Office staff was wonderful.
I really only saw him twice while I was in the hospital....the rest of the time Dr. Stephen White. Dr. White was wonderful always attentive and I didn't feel like I was a bother to him....excellent bed side manner!

Dr. Dutson is great. He's a very soft-spoken guy, but he definately cares. I didn't want to like him, as he denied me surgery the first go-round because I hadn't lost the required 10% pre-surgery. He was on my crap list that day, I'll tell you! But he was honest and straight forward about why he said no, and in the long run, I'm glad I had the extra time to process and prepare. Two months out, I suffered a marginal ulcer in my pouch and had to have emergency surgery. From the ER to the OR, and until I was under anesthesia, Dr. Dutsom held my hand. It was very calming and grounding. The surgery went well, and I look forward to seeing him at my next appointment. Dr. Dutson is an excellent addition to the already excellent team at UCLA.

I couldn't be happier with Dr. Dutson and the whole staff at UCLA. Dr. Dutson is sweet, soft spoken and gives a very caring impression. He always takes the time to fully explain things and you never feel rushed. At the hospital, he met and greeted both myself and my family before the surgery, and afterward came down personally to let my family know how it went and that they could go see me. After care visits were at 2 weeks, then 3,6,9,12 months etc. My mother is now undergoing the process of approval and she will be requesting Dr. Dutson as well. I had no complications, 3 1/2 months later my tiny scars are barely visable and I am feeling great. His surgical competence and beside manner are both excellent. I would highly recommend Dr. Dutson and the whole UCLA staff. My only criticism is that it is sometimes difficult to get them on the phone to make a follow up appointments, but if you leave a message, they do call back within a day or so.

Dr. Dutson was wonderful!! He was friendly, informative, personable, and made me feel very at ease. He knows alot about dealing with over weight patients and was kind and not snobby or condesending as some other doctors can be.

He was very straightforward about the surgery risks, complications, etc.... As well as the importance of following their guidelines exactly.

They currently have a 0% Mortality rate so that also made me more at ease.
