Prof. Weiner performed by RNY Gastric Bypass on January 11, 2011. He was great! 3.5 years later, I'm down 135 lbs since I started by liquid diet on January 1, 2011.

If I could give a higher rating than 5 star- I most definitely would! I had done a lot of research on my weightloss surgery and did all my pre reqs while in the states- only to find out that I would shortly be moving to Germany- and I can't tell you how thankful I was!! You see, I had researched doctors worldwide and kept coming up with "DR/PROF. Weiner" . I was astounded by his reputation and expertise which superseded him. So when I got here to Germany and had all my paperwork in order from the states - I was approved for an initial consultation with him- and one was scheduled for a month later. ( Due to circumstances out of my control- I had to emergency flight back to the states due to a death in the family.) So I had to reschedule and his office was more than obliging ad got me the first available appt after I was to return. I went to see him on Feb 18th... what a nice and courteous staff - and he was most gracious. Answered any and all questions I had - though there were not many and said Tri- care still needed to approve the surgery but set me up for a date for surgery 3 weeks later!! WOW!!! He knew they would approve. He gave me his email address and said if I had any questions or concerns to please email or call. Now the nervousness had started to set in. It was happening way faster than I ever thought imagined. Oh yeah and one great thing was that he said there are usually 3-4 English speaking patients on the bariatric floor during any given point so I would be paired up in my room with one- which was very accommodating and convenient !
So on March 12th I was admitted for pre op testing and given my room which is where I would be for my duration of the stay in the hospital- (except right after surgery you are in ICU).
Dr. Weiner is the ABSOLUTE BEST!He is very caring and makes rounds everyday to see you. As far as the nurses on the floor-- EXCELLENT!!! Each and everyone of them were awesome and so nice and caring. Most spoke good to great English and the few that didn't speak as much tried to help and answer all that they could. I hit the call button a few times.. and felt like I was being a pain- but they always came in smiling and made sure we were comfortable. ALL of them were super- I wish I remembered all of there names- however I did take a special liking to Beatrix-- she is super fantastic and jokes around with you.
Now as far as any complications-- NONE- and I mean NONE at all. I am so thankful I had the opportunity to be under Dr. Weiner's care and expertise. I can't say enough good things about my entire experience there!! My Post-op appt is a bit further out than I thought it would be - but that's fine.. Oh and another great special thing he does- is upon checkout when he makes his rounds- he will give you a two- cheeked hug ( a hug on each side of you - hence a two cheeked hug) .... and he talks to your family and even jokes around a bit. If I were to know anyone - anywhere wanting this surgery - I would definitely recommend and advise if they could make it to Germany - to have him as their surgeon!! Thanks so much Dr. Weiner and all of your colleagues and staff- its been such an awesome experience and journey so far!!

Dr. Weiner and his staff where wonderful. They were very attentive and caring at all my visits pre-op and post-op. After leaving Germany I was still able to get answers to questions and conserns I had by email. His assistant Petra will usually respond within 24 hours.

I had my Roux en Y on Thursday July 16th, 2010 and I couldn't have been happier with my surgeon, DR. Weiner. My insurance only gave me one option, so I wasn't able to comparison shop, but Dr. Weiner met my every expectation and then some. He answered frank questions such as how long have you done this (2005, I think can't remember exactly.), how many have you done (3000), and how many people have died on your watch (0). When I went in I was convinced I wanted Lap Band but after Dr. Weiner and I talked he explained why lap band would not be the right choice for me. I was more than comfortable and he personally did my intake as well as every day visits at the hospital. Once again, I couldn't recommend him enough! The Hospital was not air conditioned, but each room was provided with their own fan and it wasn't all that noticeable. Also, the majority of the nurses on the bariatric floor spoke passable English, but the Operating room nurse did not. A small understanding of German is helpful, but not totally necessary.

I had the DS surgery performed by Prof. Weiner on May 11, 2010. I was a self paying patient and the cost of the surgery was aprox 12,000 euros. This included the surgeon fee, all hospital fees, and a private room.

The hospital has recently undergone a renovation and I found it to be very modern and quite comfortable. An entire floor seems dedicated to Bariatric care and there are many Bariatric nurses. This turned out to be very comforting. Everyone from the people who check you in to the staff surgeons and nurses are familiar and sensitive to your weight issue. You are surrounded by other patients who all have similar problems and are empowering themselves to change.

Prof. Weiner is efficient and friendly. I did not not meet with him on the day of intake, but met with a staff intake surgeon who answered all my questions and reviewed my case. I saw Prof. Weiner a total of 4 times. He was pleasant and professional, mostly all business. I hired him because of his large base of experience and incredible skill with the DS. I didn't hire him to be my new best friend, so this was ok with me.

The staff surgeons and nurses more than made up for any lack of warmth from the surgeon. These people took care of me for my 6 days of post surgery care. They were compassionate, concerned, and friendly. Each person seemed to genuinely care about my well being. The attending doctors and nurses all made a point to shake my hand upon entering my room and would gently touch my shoulder. These small touches meant alot.

I was very scared prior to surgery and was having my 'moment' prior to being rolled into the room for anaesthesia. The nurses held my hand and spoke calmly to me, telling me everything would be fine. Even in the room with anasthesia the doctors patted my arm and promised to take care of me.

I received a large booklet to assist with aftercare, a nutrition class, and a specialized set of directions. The Prof. will monitor my bloodtests for the 3, 6, 9month and 1 year mark. I simply provide the copies from my GP. I may call or email the Prof or any of the other surgeons if I have any questions or issues. The staff made sure that I knew that when I ended my stay in the hospital, I wasn't ending my relationship with Prof Weiner or them.

I am happy and recovering and would recommend Prof Weiner to anyone interested in the DS surgery. He also performs the lap band, sleeve, RNY.

He is very nice, his staff was friendly, he addressed the risks of surgery efficiently and was willing to answer any and all questions I had. Also, he gives you his e-mail address and he responds to your e-mails in a reasonable amount of time with the answers. I will update more about him and his staff as I continue in my journey.

Actually, I met with his daughter. I was upset that I didn't even get to meet him, but then felt better after my talk with her. She is also a Doctor and is very knowledgable in this field. Her bedside manner was great and she made me feel very comfortable and answered all my questions. My first impression of the staff behind the counter was not very pleasant, but the nurses who took you to the Exam rooms were very kind. They emphazise aftercare very much. A booklet is provided that has answers to many questions you wouldn't even think to ask. The risks of surgery were laid out and also a great discussion was made over which surgery would be better for me and my needs. Overall, in my opinion, I still feel that the actual surgeon should be available to meet with and not have to wait until the day before surgery to have that opportunity. I know of 3 other women that have had him as their surgeon and were EXTREMELY pleased with him, so I can't wait.

My first impression of Dr. Weiner was good in that he listened to me carefully why I explained why I wanted weight loss surgery. My first consultation with him was to see about having the Lap Band surgery. He took time to explain why it was not appropriate for someone my size as I would lose only half the weight that I wanted to lose. He then told me about all the various surgeries he performs and suggested Duodenal Switch as a good option for me based on our talk and a survey I had sent to him online. He gave me a book on the DS which I scoured and spent hours on Obesity Help and other DS forums before I made my final decision. He did address the risks of surgery and we talked about my overall excellent health and chances for a successful outcome versus the diabetes I was destined for since both parents have this and I was more than 300 lbs.rnrnDr. Weiner is rare in that he is a busy surgeon who answers emails promptly and takes time to make sure patients are comfortable with every aspect of their WLS journey.rnrnI left the hospital five days post-op with a date for follow up a month later knowing that follow ups are required also at three, six and 12 months post op.rnrnrnI found it a bit frustrating dealing with his secretary Mrs. Pohl-Ziegler at times as I wasn't getting some questions answered even after asking them several times and trying to re-word them so she would understand. I am assuming this was a language barrier since she is German and I found her English in emails to be barely adequate.rnrnFor me, surgical competence is way more important than bedside manner. I had so much faith in Dr.Weiner's techinical skill that I didn't care if he ever cracked a smile or said a kind word to me. You want someone who knows exactly what they are doing when they are literally holding your life in their hands.rnrn

I first meet with Prof.Weiner on monday the 23rd of Feb.he was very nice and a little funny even, he made my visit comfortable. His English speaking skills were great I could follow everything he was saying and was impressed with the information given to me.He explained the risks and pre surgery care completely,I looked up alot of information on the internet before going in and was greatful for the additional information ...I recomend talking to you doctor first before looking things up I dont think I was as well informed as i thought Iwas before seeing him.He made it clear I was to follow all steps pre op and how I will get intensive educations on diet and exersise as well as vitamins. His staff was great, living in germany its sometimes difficult to understand but it was as if they all had gone to school in the states. and very nice,(I have been to clinics where the staff looks at you as if you are just another lazy fat person getting sick again.it as if they are tired of seeing you)my opinion of course. It was as if these people were happy to see me, I did feel nervous at first, but changed my mind and became less anxious as they began explaining everything to me.I mean everything, I left with enough information and tools to ease my mind.My surgery date is set for March 13th 2009. wish us luck!

Where do you begin about an amazing man named Rudolf Weiner?rnrnWhat can you say other than he is heaven sent! His hand is guided by God himself!rnrnMy first impression of him is that I just wanted to hug him. I felt an instant acceptance by him. He was honest, sincere and straight to the point. He was comforting with his words and actions.rnrnMy impression of him still stands the same. He saved my life. I will forever be grateful for him!rnrnHe cares about his patients. Bottom line. Plain and simple.rnrnHe told me from the start. It was a risky surgery because of my size and the other medical promblems that I had. rnrnHe did it! He did it without complication. He did it and has changed my life forever.rnrnHe spoke with and met my 3 young children. He helped bring my husband home from a war zone to help with my mental well being. I was scared. Here I am in a foreign country, no family and with a husband off to war. I was terrified. He comforted me. He cares. rnrn
