California Pacific Medical Center Bariatric Center
Dr. Jossart is an extremely experienced, very knowledgeable and very competent professional. He is truly a pioneer in VSG surgery in California and one of the best in the nation. Above all, he is a kind and caring human who goes out of his way to make sure you get the best care and have a successful experience and weight loss journey.
Dr. Jossart is a critical thinker. He looks at the data and his own results and does not jump on the latest band wagon or what some pharma company is pushing. He can logically and empirically explain the various types of surgeries and outcomes. He understands and repeatedly states that no surgery can work alone without disciplined diet and exercise. It helps you change your lifestyle but does not do it for you.
I was very lucky to find Dr. Jossart after an extensive search. What first peaked my interest was his experience in VSG surgeries over a long period of time. What reassured me that I found the surgeon who would do my operation was his commitment to my personal care and professionalism. I have been attending his monthly support groups and have been under his and his staff's care since 2010.
My personal outcome has been great (better than I expected) but I'm not alone. I've met many of is patients and have seen equally dramatic results that go beyond weight loss and extend into co-morbidity issues such as mobility, diabetes and other health issues.
I would unequivocally and without any hesitation recommend Dr. Jossart to do your WLS.
Dr Jossart and staff, amazed me. He is direct, knowledgeable, and very skilled. He was highly respected by hospital staff and complimentary physicians. My VSG happened exactly as expected, even the anticipated difficulties.
I called on my first day home with an issue, he directly answered my question, help me set realistic expectations.
It could not have not have been better.

Dr Jossart and Julie his assistant are amazing. The surgery went VERY well on 02/24/2014 and I am in hardly any pain in my first day out of the hospital. The hospital staff was very kind and willing to provide whatever I needed for comfort. They always answered quickly when I had questions and were sympathetic to any of my requests. The never forced me to do anything I didnt want to do, but to be honest the surgery was such a success and they had my pain level so well controlled I didn't need them to ask me to get walking.. I knew what I needed to do and it hasn't been hard to do so even now that I am home without the Morphine pain pump. I am still weak as to be expected but I already feel like a new woman, thank you Dr Jossart, Julie, Nancy, Amy, Good Samaritan et al. I would always recommend Dr Jossart over any bariatric surgeon in this world to anyone! :)

I had my DS in 2002 and have lost 100 pounds. I did extensive research in finding the best surgeon and physician possible--that led me to Dr. Jossart. He and his staff were absolutely fantastic pre-procedure, during procedure and after procedure. He is not only an excellent and talented surgeon, he is also a caring man who makes you feel safe. He explained absolutely everything and was available every time I needed him.
I couldn't be happier with my decision to use him. My health is good. My excess weight is gone.
I absolutely love Dr. Jossarrt. It is obvious he cares about his patients and isn't in just for the money. He always is willing to answer questions and take all the time you need. He doesn't rush you through like cattle. He make sure you have all the information and tools you need to be successful. I highly recommend Dr. Jossarrt!
I just went for my 3 week post surgery checkup. I have been so impressed with Dr. Jossart from the first time I went to one of his support groups (1/3/11) for information. I told him my concerns -- to get my surgery before my 65th birthday (4/11/11) (before I got Medicare), and also to get rid of my type 2 diabetes. He got me in to see him in his office the day after I first met him at a support group and he constantly kept my goals in mind and told me what to do to fast track everything I had to do before we submitted to my insurance company for approval. When I came in to see him the first time, I wanted a vertical gastrectomy and he said that "might work", but he asked me if I had thought of a duodenal switch. I told him my reservations about a DS and he answered each question I had and told me what I needed to know. I asked to speak to one of his previous DS patients and he found someone who was willing to speak to me about her DS. Meanwhile we moved forward even before I decided which I wanted. I ended up having my DS on 2/17/11 with insurance approval having come in 2 weeks before that. Much quicker than I had expected to have it done.
He is not only a fabulous surgeon (since he does all the different surgeries and revisions, he is not invested in which one you choose, and he does them all laprascopically), but he answers all your questions, has a great sense of humor and really cares about his patients' success. He tells you how to lose weight and keep it off (calorie counts and what are the best foods to eat). And he has a great "bedside manner" -- unusual in a surgeon.
I feel very blessed to be living in San Francisco where Dr. Jossart practices and that my insurance approved me having him do my surgery. I don't think you could find a better bariatric surgeon anywhere.

SEVEN YEARS POST-OP AND DOING GREAT!
When I first met Dr. Jossart I found him to be very knowledgeable and concerned. I never felt rushed or made to feel that I was asking too many questions. He seemed very compassionate and that was probably the #1 reason I chose Dr. Jossart as my DS surgeon.
Many doctors have a good education and knowledge in their field but sometimes forget they are dealing with a 'person'. When you are considering bariatric surgery it is a somewhat difficult time in your life. Weight is high and the other health issues caused from that weight make your quality of life less than what it should be. Add to that, most of us have feelings of guilt and hoplessness, and for myself, a tremendous lack of self esteem. Given all of these challenges, I wanted someone who was an expert in his field but also someone with a good 'bedside manner'.
My surgery was successful and Dr. J was always available for any information or advice I needed. My needs were more than the average person because I had experienced a brain injury about 5 years prior to the DS and he made sure my neurologist and PCP were aware of my care and my needs at all times. Unfortunately for me, one year later we relocated from CA to the southern US and I wasn't able to take advantage of his support groups....BUT even though I lived 2300 miles from his office he continued to provide care for me. He answered all of my emails promptly and called me when I needed him.
I lost approximately 150 lbs. I've gained about 25 of those back again.
In December of 2010 I spent about an hour with Dr. J in his new office @ the Sutter Medical Center in Novato, CA. I wish I had a video camera and had captured the appointment. After a brief personal catch up, Dr. J began asking questions about all of the health problems I had prior to the DS and you should have seen the great look on his face. He could not have been happier.
Seven years out.....
Diabetes? NO
High Blood Pressure? NO
Sleep Apnea? NO
High Cholesterol? NO
Arthritis in my knees? NO
Dr. Jossart is a brilliant surgeon and
he is a kind and caring man.

I first met Dr. Jossart in March 2009. My first impression was great. He is a very confident Dr. with amazing knowledge on obesity health problems and weight loss surgery.
I was very impressed with his office staff and how quick they were able to accomodate me.
I was very happy with how thorough my office visit was and how much information I received from him. I was most impressed with his committment to each patient and how he truly gets to know each patient's individual needs. I am 1 1/2 years post op and he remembers everything about my care and procedure. I believe his monthly support group meetings are very important to the post op patient. I am very thankful he attends each meeting and answers all our questions. He covers, in detail, the risks of surgery and the risks of obesity.
I am very thankful Dr. Jossart has the surgical competency and a great bedside manner to be an outstanding Dr. It is very important your Dr. has both of these qualities. I have lost a total of 197 lbs. and am VERY happy.

I have known Dr. Jossart since July 2003 when he performed my gastric bypass. I can't say enough nice things about him!! He is kind, patient, understanding, knowledable and helpful. If he says he'll do something you know it will be done! He and his staff helped me get through the red tape of the insurance company even though it took me 9 months to do it. I lost 160 pounds after my rou-n-y and I will always be grateful to him for saving my life. Whenever I send an e-mail with a question I always get the answer before the day is out. I'm so glad he was there for me!!
