Dr. Newhoff I very stright and to the point. I like that in a doctor.

He is very knowledgable in his field. I trusted him with my life and felt safe.

His staff works very hard and they are very busy office. I wish they could return phone calls faster!

Dr. Newhoff seam very as a matter of fact. Let's face it, his beside manner isn't #1, but he knows his field, and I would choose him again if I had to do it again.

Yes, the office is very busy and it is sometimes hard to get in for your appointments when you have to. That's part of the territory though!

Over all I would rate him A+1!

As I stated above Dr. Newhoff has great surgical competence!

He made me a new person, and I love him for that!

My first impression was, of course he's skinny! He is very confident about what he does. He explains the surgery very well, and seems to really understand your feelings. He admits he wont be a softy following the surgery, he says you WILL be up walking with in 6 hours, or I will cut off your pain meds. "My patients don't have complications!" I know that sounds arrogant, but hey, it makes me feel better.
His office staff is very nice, prompt in returning phone calls, and they really keep you up to date on what your statis is. I will have to update following the surgery, so far everything has gone very smooth.

Very professional,to the point, and nice, and has a sence of humor. His office staff have been very kind and patient with me,they are very nice also.So far I haven't seen anything that I DIDN'T like about him.First impressions stick so I really like Dr. Newoff.Dr. Newoff like I said is nice,to the point, professional and has a sence of humor,do what he says or find another Dr.,at least he tells you the truth,it's not sugar-coated!:)He emphasizes alot about aftercare...get up and get with the program. He addressed all the onfo. I was looking for about all the risk, etc.,I did educate myself with alot of info.that I read up on also.I would rate Dr. Newoff with being the best there is,he's been doing this over 20 yrs.I would say surgical competence is better,it's not that important to have bedside manners, bedside manners aren't going to get you thru the operation, and yes I'm sure everyone would want a Dr. to have sugar-coated words flow out of their mouth...but like I said what's important?A good Dr. that gets to the point! I'll take Dr. Newoff anytime.

I was expecting Dr. Newhoff to be a little rough around the edges after reading some of his reviews. I found him to be very straight forward but also caring. He has been doing this operation for a long time and if you aren't going to do what he says he wants you to find a new physician. Makes sense to me. He asks that you refrain from asking any questions until he is through talking because he will probally answer your question. And you know what he was right.

Very businesslike and thorough but kind and interested in you as a person. His staff is courteous but busy, If you need to have someone to hold your hand do not use Dr. Newhoff. I am pre-op but am sure my opinion of Dr. Newhoff will remain favorable.

January 2002- I went to a first time group consultation at Dr. Newhoff's office at St. Josephs Hospital Medical Bldng. I got a very good vibe about him, very good first impression.

3/26/03...Update- after now knowing him, WOW! what an EXCELENT Dr. He really knows his stuff, he's the best!

Great surgeon who is blunt and to the point with his patients, office staff is friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend him.

I had a consult with Dr Simon. He was very thorough in his explanation of the surgery, the risks and after care. I really admired his talking quite honestly to the group I was in. I would love to have him perform the laparoscopic surgery on me but he is not in my insurance network. So, I will be going with Dr Newhoff. Good Samaritan Bariatric Center have my medical records, a letter of support from my PCP and today, 2/6/2003, I had my psych evaluation done. I have to wait until next Friday to get the results (and pay the rest of the money for the testing) the total was $500 which my insurance would not cover. So, hopefully after next Friday things will be ready to be reviewed by my insurance company. Pray for me please, thanks.
2/28/2003 I am going to have lap RNY with Dr Simon after all! Wow I couldn't be happier!

I attended the 'orientation' on 2/5/03 with a group of about 8 other woman and two husbands. Dr.Simon actually did the seminar, and Dr.Newhoff only poked his head in for a minute to say "hello". The seminar took a full 4 hours and was informative. Once it was over the receptionist (?) came in to ask who we wanted and what procedure. This was a little strange considering we didn't have time to ask questions or be seen individually by a doctor. I said I wanted Dr.Simon, as he does the laproscopic procedure. All of the others said the same. Then we were told that Dr.Simon does not accept ANY insurance and we would have to pay out-of-pocket. I had to change my choice to Dr.Newhoff and figured I would have time to think about it more later. I was still thinking and waiting for another orientation with a different doctor when Nancy from Good Sam called on 2/20/03 to say she was waiting to get an approval from my insurance co. (MedCare Mountain States). Again, I went with the flow and figured I wouldn't hear from her again in quite a while and would still have time to learn more and check out different doctors. Well, guess who called this morning to say I was approved! Nancy said they didn't even hesitate in giving an approval; without even requesting my records, letter from my PCP, or anything else I had heard horror stories about. I've been in a daze all day. I still have to have the psych. eval. and my one-on-one with the surgeon; but I call Monday to get my surgery date. I'm hoping for around May 15th since I work and attend school.

Dr. Newhoff was recommended to me by another one of his patients that I know through my work. I had read lots of comments on this site about him, so I kind of knew that he was a straight-forward kind of guy. I went to his office for his group consultation on 02-18, and I absolutely loved the man! He is VERY straight-forward, he tells you how it is, and basically lets you know that he has been doing this surgery for 25 years now and if you are not willing to do what he says as far as your recovery is concerned, then you need to find another surgeon. He doesn't molly-coddle you or talk down to you, and I really liked that. I want a surgeon who is confident and competent, not one who fluff-talks you all day. I am positive that I want him to be the one to do my surgery. He is not in my network, so I may have to fight the ins. co. or pay out-of-network rates, but I don't care. I like him. His office staff, though extremely busy, is always polite and nice. Dr. Newhoff tells you exactly what you need to do for aftercare and what you should and shouldn't eat. After leaving his meeting, I felt a lot less uneasy about how my eating habits will change because he was very clear about what was going to happen. All of his aftercare office visits are free, what a great bonus! I think he will have a great bedside manner. Just because he's not the 'fluffy-cuddly' type, you can tell he TRULY cares about his patients and about helping people lose weight, and that in itself makes him a great surgeon and a great person.
