He's a very serious person. I knew that this was a serious step I was about to take and I was glad that Dr. Averbach was a no nonsense type of person...This a life choice, not a game...Everbody to me was okay...they could have been a little more friendly....I like Dr. Averbach...have all good things to say about him...at least 4 right now...He explains all the end and outs of the surgery and the importance of the aftercare...On a scale from 1 to 10, I rate him a 9 1/2.....His surgical competence impressed me the most.....

My first impression of Dr. Averbach was that he is professional and listens to patient well.Very serious but as time goes on he cracks little jokes. The office staff is great no matter how often you call ,they are willing to help anyway possible.I liked least that he couldn't provide much insight to other illness in refferance to WLS.So you must see your regular doctor as soon as possible also. The aftercare program is good.Overall I would give him a nine. Both were great surgical competence and bedside manner.

Dr. Averbach was not the first bariatric surgeon I considered for my lap-band surgery. My primary physician referred me to Dr. Barry Greene, who is a well-known bariatric surgeon practicing in Montgomery County, MD, where I live. I started a mandatory pre-op program with Dr. Greene, i.e. paid a (non-refundable) fee of $500 and went to a few office appointments with his staff. It was only at my third visit to Dr. Greene’s office that I got to talk to Dr. Greene. That meeting did not go well. Dr. Greene was less than friendly, he shouted not only at me, but at one of his nurses in my presence, and I left his office in tears and with a firm decision to never return there again! This was when I started looking for another surgeon, and this is how I met Dr. Averbach. I was impressed by Dr. Averbach instantly. Unlike so many doctors I met before, he took time to get himself familiar with my medical history prior to the appointment, so it was not only me, who came to the appointment with a list of questions, but him as well. His thoroughness, his obvious intelligence and vast surgical experience, his polite and respectful manners, made me convinced that he would be the best surgeon for me. And now, 3 months post-op, this conviction is as strong as ever. The surgery went well, with no complications or problems. I have had 2 fills already and am loosing weight, slowly, but surely. Dr. Averbach and his staff have been incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. Thank you, Dr. Averbach!

Dr. Averbach presents as a very knowledgeable professional and continued to exhibit professionalism throughout. I would describe this office staff as busy yet effective. This doctor emphasize the importance of every aspect of the process. Dr. Averbach is one of the best! This is why I choose him to complete my surgery.

I first met him at the orientation for the surgery and he seemed okay. I later met him for my first consultation and he was very open and constantly asked me if I had any questions. Made me feel like he would be there even for the dumb questions. rnThe office staff have been wonderful. They always have a smile on there face and my first time there this one cute old lady that works there stoped me and asked me about myself and what kind of surgery I wanted. She was so sweet.rnWell I was treated like a princess. The only problem I have is when they were transporting me from recovery to my room the ran me into the walls, the elevator doors and then the doors of my room. Okay I know you may hit one thing but come one when the patients starts crying from you hurting them. Chill out. My mom remembers the nurses I dont and they should be lucky that I dont. Other then that the food was good and the doctors were cool.

I met Dr. Averbach at one of his seminars at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore and I immediately thought he was the one. I then scheduled a consultation in his office a few days later. His office staff was wonderful and very helpful and organized. His office has a very structured pre and post surgery program to include nutritional guidelines, psychiatric evaluation and support group attendance recommendations. After meeting with him, I felt more at ease about risks and and anticipated complications. I am confident he has the surgcial competence to perform this surgery on me.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Averbach. He is an amazing man with an amazing talent. I can not say enough kind words about him. He was very supportive of me since the day I met him and answered any and all questions. The morning of surgery I was very nervous and he was first to assure me everything will be alright and he would take good care of me, and that he did.

Dr. Averbach is a wonderful surgeon. I noted that some comments related to his being strictly business. I first felt he was almost shy, but now I feel very comfortable with him--he is so encouraging and kind. The entire staff in his office is wonderful and accessible. I was also particularly helped by being able to attend a no-obligation orientation seminar, so my husband and I could learn about gastric bypass vs. lap band. This was extremely helpful, and as a result, I selected lap band. I really feel he helped save my life. Paula Matuskey
