Really liked him very straight forward.
My impression hasn't changed until this point. Through surgery still really like him. Office staff was very friendly stayed on top of thing they knew we had a dead line and was able to get it all done by then. Haven't had a chance to work with them as far as aftercare. Went over risk of surgery throughly answered all questions pretaining to surgery that I had. Overall myself and my family have been very pleased.

I love my doctor. So far I have had no problems with him. He has discussed the risks. He sat with me longer than any doctor I have ever been to and discussed everything. I went in with a long list of questions and he answered everyone of them with the utmost of importancy. I would give Dr. Alexander a rating of an 8 out of 10 so far. His staff kept him from getting a 10. They aren't nearly as friendly or helpful as him.

I selected Dr. John Alexander because of all the positive recommendations on this site. I was looking for a top notch surgeon, but also one who could move me through the process in a timely manner. From the time I had my initial consult with Dr. Alexander until my approval and surgery were only seven weeks. I am extremely pleased with my choice of surgeon. I believe Dr. Alexander to be one of the most competent and talented bariatric surgeon. I feel that his expertise is among the best.

My first impression was really good. The staff seemed adequate and helpful to me in getting my insurance approval and getting ready for my surgery. Lynn was the office manager at the time and she was very helpful in trying to be sure I got lined up for surgery before the end of the year. I wanted to have the surgery during Christmas break so that my two daughters could be with their grandparents during the surgery and few days following. My surgery was scheduled for Thursday December 27, 2001, but because of an emergency 8 hour surgery that Dr. Alexander had to perform the night before, my surgery was rescheduled for the next day, Friday, on Dec. 28. The staff worked very hard to accommodate me and help me not have to put it off until after the weekend. Dr. Alexander does not usually do surgery on Fridays, but they worked it out so I would not have to wait.

The surgery went very well. I only had to stay in the hospital for two days, instead of the usual three or four. I was treated very well in the hospital and could not ask for better results.

Dr. Alexander, like most surgeons, does not have the best aftercare program. I believe that after the initial surgical situation is under control, it is important to get under the care of an internist. I started with an intenrist at 6 months, and continue to get my care there, having the proper blood work performed every three months, and now after my one year checkup, we will do the blood work every 6 months.

Dr. John D. Alexander is a very competent and caring surgeon. I saw him about having my revision surgery (from VSG to RNY) in October 2002 due to chronic vomitting. I walked into his office and was greeted at the front desk by Tina. She was very sweet. She asked me to fill out the office initial paperwork and I had to pay the $205.00 consult fee. I had to wait about an hour to meet with the doctor. Dr. Alexander wears scrubs with cowboy boots. He came into the exam room, asked me why I wanted a revision and what I was experiencing. He went over his modified RNY procedure with me, the possible complications, and talked about the importance of proper diet and exercise after surgery. He did not rush through our meeting and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. Dr. Alexander talks a little fast, but if you ask him to slow down, he will. I was scheduled for a pre-op physical with Dr. Beaudoing, an endoscope, and blood work. During my endoscope, Dr. Alexander found that I had a staple line disruption in 2 places and that my silastic ring appeared to be defective. I made my mind up at that time. I knew Dr. Alexander would be my surgeon. I had my final pre-op meeting with him the week before my surgery. He went back over all the possible complications, what was going to happen during surgery, and what I could expect after surgery. Finally, surgery day, 12-12-02. I feel that Dr. Alexander did a wonderful thing for me. He removed my silastic ring, my gall bladder, and repaired my prior VSG to make it RNY. The vomitting I was experiencing is now gone. I would recommend Dr. Alexander to anyone.

Dr. Barker is the surgeon that did my VSG on 5-6-02. This is my opinion of Dr. Barker. I was not pleased with his procedure after time. The silastic ring broke after only 7 months and I had 2 staple line disruptions. I had to go through another major surgery to correct the problems I was having after Dr. Barker's surgery.

I thankfully had met him before since he performed my husbands surgery. His staff was great. Since I have a lower BMI then some my husband and I fiqured I would get denied but he said with all my medical conditions he thought this was perfect for me. I rate him a 12 out of 10.

I have changed surgeons for many reasons and I am eternally grateful to a little "birdie" who let me know of Dr. Alexander. She too has switched to Dr. Alexander from Dr. Todd McCarty.

Well I met Dr. Alexander June 11. My impression of him was that he was was totally knowledgeable, and compassionate to his patients. Any question, and every question answered, no rush. He even reminded to tell my husband once I'm skinny to tell him I love him---LOL----I've been with him 30 years and irregardless of size, and I tell him every day. I am very relaxed with this doctor, and feel totally confidant all will go well. His track record is awesome, and speaks for itself in over 1200 surgeries.

I saw Dr. Alexander on 11/21/02. He is a very funny little man! He was also very nice and very up-front about the surgery and exactly what is done during the procedure and he answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. He kept stressing how safe the Open RNY actually is and how it's come such a long way since they first started performing it back in the 80's. He states he has done over 1,085 of these surgeries in the last 10 years and has never lost a patient. That's certainly a big plus!
He stated that my paperwork would be faxed to the insurance (Blue Cross/Blue Shield BlueChoice POS - Texas) the same day...but when I called back the day after my visit with him, his insurance person still had not sent in my paperwork because she stated she had been busy and couldn't get a fax number for BCBS's surgery predetermination department. I fussed at her a bit about this...so she transferred me to a gal named DeeDee who told me if I could get the fax number, she would fax it right away. I immediately called BCBS and got both the predetermination fax number AND the precertification fax number. I called DeeDee back with the numbers and she promised she would fax them over immediately. I plan to start my "attack" on BCBS on Monday. I want to have the surgery about 10 days before Christmas, if possible, so I want to speed things along as much as I possibly can...and believe me, I'm GREAT at pestering people to death to get what I want!
Especially since this surgery is, hopefully, going to give me back my quality of life. I'll keep posting on my progress. Please send prayers my way! God Bless!

He was a very caring person. He made me feel very comfortable about the surgery. The office staff was very helpful in getting testing scheduled while I was in Dallas only two days.Dr. Alexander made me feelthat he was the best surgeon for this procedure. He told me as long as he did the surgery, it was a safe procedure, but he couldn't guarntee any other surgeon's procedure. He really didn't mention aftercre.I think that comes when I'm in the Hospital, but since I live in Kansas, I will be attending aftercare there.I think Dr. Alexander's surgical competence and bedside manner are great,he really cares about you as a person.I do wish he would have talked more about the nutrional component.
