Alaska Bariatric Center Bariatric Center
He is very gentle and considerate. Honestly, before I met him I had read about him here and was skeptical about all the wonderful things people had said. So, I went into it with the idea that he would really have to prove to me that all those compliments were true. I *wanted* to not like him, which I suppose is a bit strange.
But, in the end... I have to say that it's all true, and more. He's loving and gentle. He doesn't make you feel huge and he is very intune to people's comforts. He is also *wonderful* about answering questions!! He really took the time to answer some questions I had about different procedures and why his was good.
I was amazed that he remember all of this fatalities, their names (tho he didn't use them) and what happened. I could tell they were more like 'friends' than numbers, an attitude that far too many doctors tend to take.
His office staff it always willing to help, and to listen. They even brought me water when I was waiting for an appointment. The other patients are great too!! I remember having a conversation in the waiting room with about 4 other ladies and they were all really sweet and upfront about everything.
I have heard he's even shown up on people's doorstep if they neglected to keep in contact after surgery!! That's a huge issue for him, continuing in aftercare!! For obvious reasons. *S*
Anyway, he's an angel with a stethaspope! I'm still a bit nervous about the huge changes, but feel very comfortable putting my life in his hands.
Translation: I ~highly~ recommend him!!
01/25/03: I'm post op now. I wish that I could have had more contact with Dr. Todd himself; but what I had was very informative. His staff has been wonderful; his nurses (who I see most often) are very knowledgable and pleasant. 05/30/01: I haven't had an apt w/Dr. Todd yet. I have seen him in passing a few times. Today I was in the office to ensure all my paperwork was ready for my first apt. As I stood there going through forms someone put a gentle hand on my shoulder; I turned around to see the smiling face of Dr. Todd. I have never had a Dr. acknowledge my presence without having spent 1/2 hr waiting in a cold little room wearing a very small gown. It was such a small gesture but one that instantly made me feel as though I had picked the right surgeon!
I have liked him from the start and nothing has changed. He is on the one hand very professional and the other hand very easy to talk to. The one thing that struck me is that he does not try to impress or intimidate you with lots of medical terms. His staff also seems to reflect this personality and are very patient with me. I fully expect the post-op care to be just as professional and caring as the pre-op is so far.
I had been reading the message board of Alaska Bariatric Center for over a year before I had my initial consult. I was impressed with Dr Todd before ever meeting him. He is so involved and concerned about us and our well-being. The office staff has been great. He also travels to other towns to attend their support meeting. I have been very pleased so far... will post more after my surgery. (1/27/03)
My first inmpression of Dr. Todd was that he was very intelligent, very capable, dedicated to his work and that I found the right guy to do my surgery! As time went by I realized I could not have been more fortunate that he was my surgeon. He is very nice; makes time for everyone; and genuinely cares about his patients. He is a spiritual person which impresses me. He is very concerned about aftercare and all of his aftercare appointments are free for the rest of my life. He has a structured aftercare program. He was very honest and open about the risks of surgery; how many people he has lost over the years and why. I felt comfortable talking to him about it. On a scale of one to ten I would give him a 25. I know that the comment here on this website says no person can be best in all aspects but I am being totally honest and I cannot find anything negative to say. Dr. Todd is wonderful. You will just have to find out for yourself.
I have been very impressed with Dr. Todd. He is a very kind man and seems to care about his patients personally. During my evaluation, he found out that I was a single mother, he stopped his dictation, took my hand and told me that he would take very good care of me, so that I could take care of my son the way I want to. I work in a hospital and I am not used to doctors being that kind. I get choked up just thinking about it.
I met Dr. Todd at my first support meeting on 10-24-02. It wasn't a personal introduction but I could tell from his manner of speaking to the group that I was going to like him. He seems very sincere in his desire to help people reach their goals. He doesn't put on airs or judge people because of their obesity. On 11-14-02, I had my physical with Dr. Todd. I gave up half of my hour-long appointment so he could help a patient who needed immediate attention. I was glad to help, but I was disappointed that I didn't get a chance to get to know Dr. Todd at all. When he showed up, he had less than 30 minutes to do my physical, go through all the paperwork I'd filled out, and dictate his findings into a recorder, so the meeting was rather rushed and not very social. I have heard so many wonderful things about Dr. Todd. I'm looking forward to finding out these great things for myself.
I was totally impressed with Dr.Todd. After a year and a half. I can't say enough about how great he is. I have never met a more caring ,devoted Dr. As a person an friend he is just as caring .Some Dr's. are paper Dr's. you are just a file. With Dr.Todd you feel like a real person for the first time in a long time.He is a people Dr. It has been over a year and the surgery is done and he still makes me feel great every time I see him. He has support groups for use to go to before and after surgery. He is there too for us still.
Dr. Todd was very nice and took alot of time with me to anwser all the questions I had about the surgury and the risk. He also sent three letters in my year and a half battle with the insurance company.
He does require everyone attend two support meetings before the surgury and a promise to attend aftercare meetings.
I rate him a 10 so far.
I am post-op now and still think Dr. Todd is tops! His bed side manner is great and since I had no complacations I rate his surgical competence a 10. I was greatful that even though I had an open surgery the scar is olny about 4".
I found my surgeon through this site, and was so pleased to discover that he was here in Anchorage, AK where I live. I had heard that I would probably have to go to WA or CA for the surgery, so this was a big relief.
Dr. Todd has a BOOMING practice. I met him on a Thursday in a group appointment where he and his insurance coordinator explained the procedure itself and the steps that would need to be taken to qualify for it. Dr. Todd was very upfront about the procedure, even explaining that two of his patients had died in close proximity to their surgery. (Neither died on the table.) While this was frightening, it was good to know that he was not hiding anything.
Dr. Todd's staff is very friendly, if not the most organized. Dr. Todd himself is a very spiritual man and prays with you fi you would like, which personally set my mind at ease.
If there was one thing I don't care for with his practice, it is that they are so busy, they don't seem to know everyone. There are a few people in the office, that no matter how many times I've seen them, they still don't seem to know who I am.
Dr. Todd is very big on before and aftercare. There is a large pre-op packet that must be completed in order to qualify for surgery. He wants to be sure that you are in the best health you can be before he opens you up. They tell you in the very beginning what sort of diet and life you should expect to have after surgery.
Overall, I would say that Dr. Todd is a wonderful man and a wonderful surgeon, I'm so thankful for his place in my life. He has recently obtained an associate, hopefully that will ease some of the weight on him and the staff so they can get back to the quality care and personal feel they had when I first went there.
I would say Dr. Todd's surgical competence is amazing and as for his bedside manner, I had no complications and didn't see him hardly at all, so I can't say about it. I guess I would have liked to have him more active in my stay at the hospital, but as I was fine, I can't complain.
