Reflux damage not irreversible

Heartburn can kill.

Repeated dousing in acid and bile reflux can change the lining of the esophagus and eventually cause cancer, doctors have learned.

A fairly new procedure to burn off the portion of the lining that is susceptible to cancer is being used at the Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University Medical Center.

The technology is called HALO ablation and is the best strategy available for defeating the precancerous condition called Barrett's esophagus, physicians say.

A study released today in the journal Pediatrics suggests that rapid weight gain during the first months of infancy can predict obesity and high blood pressure later in life.

The ADA's mission is to promote optimal nutrition and well-being for all people. The National Nutrition Month campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

This event was first launched in 1973 as "National Nutrition Week." This weeklong event was enthusiastically embraced by ADA members and growing public interest in nutrition. By 1980, National Nutrition Week had grown to National Nutrition Month.

Financial incentives needed to curb obesity

Tax breaks are a better way to use wasted taxpayer money

According to the Center for Disease Control Prevention, 63 percent of Nevadans in 2007 were overweight or obese.  This is almost 15 percent increase over a 10 year span, when less than 50 percent of Nevadans fell into these categories.  

According to a 2008 research conducted by Calorie Lab, we are ranked the 37th state in the nation in terms of highest obesity levels. What does this mean for the 36 states before us?  It has been reported by researchers of the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health that by 2030, as much as 86 percent of the entire American population will be overweight or clinically obese.
