Complications And Costs For Obesity Surgery Declining, USA

A new study by HHS' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality found that the average rate of post-surgical and other complications in patients who have obesity surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, declined 21 percent between 2002 and 2006. They also found that payments to hospitals dropped by as much as 13 percent for bariatric surgery patients during that time period, in part because fewer complications meant fewer readmissions.

Obesity alert as children fail to get daily exercise
on April 24, 2009

Almost three quarters of children in England are failing to do enough exercise, the Government revealed today.

Figures from the Department of Health show 72 per cent of schoolchildren do not get 60 minutes of daily exercise outside school and 45 per cent watch TV or play computer games before school.

Only 22 per cent do something active after their evening meal.Health experts recommend children should do at least an hour's exercise every day. More than 260,000 families took part in the survey as part of anti-obesity campaign Change4Life.

DEFINING A DIABETES CURE

JoAnne Zoller Wagner's diagnosis as prediabetic wasn't enough to compel her to change her habits and lose 30 pounds. Not even with the knowledge her sister died because of diabetes.

"I didn't have that sense of urgency," said the Pasadena, Md., woman.

But nine months later, doctors told Wagner her condition had worsened. She had Type 2 diabetes.

That scared her into action.

How do they figure? Seats get narrower, travelers wider

The surface is the human derriere, Canadian branch. Its measurement offers Air Canada medical proof that a traveler's bottom will not fit into one seat and, therefore, needs two, without extra charge. Travelers wishing to get this exemption need only visit their doctor, where they get to sit on a paper-covered exam table as the doctor rests a ruler on the left side of their widest point (hip or waist), marks it, then repeats on the right.
