Super slimmer refused skin op

A WOMAN who lost 11st through healthy eating and exercise has twice been denied an NHS-funded operation to remove the excess skin.

Mother-of-two Ruth Lee, 37, of Bridlington, weighed 22st 4lb and now weighs 11st 4lb, dropping from a size 28 to a size 12 over two years.

Ruth said she has battled with her weight for years and after losing half her body weight, she is now left with excess skin that can only be removed through surgery.

A weighty issue

Be honest: If you belly up to a Burger King and order a Double Whopper with cheese, do you really want to know that it contains a whopping 990 calories?

More important, should Bur-ger King, Taco Bell and other fast-food purveyors be forced to list this information prominently?

State lawmakers seem to think so, and this week a legislative committee approved a bill that would require all Connecticut chains with 15 or more locations nationwide to post calorie counts on menus, menu boards and drive-through signs. If approved by the full General Assembly, the law would go into effect next year.

High Cholesterol

He’s only nine, but Zack Padgett is worried about his cholesterol.

“It was kind of scary, because I could have died or something like that,? Zack says.

A healthy cholesterol level in children is less than 170, but Zack’s level recently topped 350.  That’s extremely high, but is not unusual.  In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends cholesterol lowering medication in children as young as 8.
