According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the seven most neglected nutrients in the American diet are calcium, potassium, fiber, magnesium and vitamins A, C and E. Ninety percent of teenage girls and 70 percent of the population as a whole, for example, don’t get enough calcium, and both girls and their moms should be getting more dairy or other good sources of the mineral.

Speciality surgery may help morbidly obese

A relatively new medical specialty, bariatrics offers help for those who are morbidly obese.

The American Association of Bariatric Surgery defines the morbidly obese as those with a body mass index of 40 or above, or, for a normal height woman, being more than 100 pounds overweight. Those who are morbidly obese are at a higher risk of mortality and such extreme obesity puts people at risk for numerous life- threatening disease, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes and more.

Woman Loses 255 lbs to Stay Alive

Suzanne Dale can now fit her whole body into one leg of the size 36 jeans she used to wear all the time. "These were tight. Couple's new lease of life after 14-stone weight loss

A COUPLE have shed more than 14 stone between them after under going "his and her" gastric bypass operations.
Roy (61) and Kate Glencross (60), who together weighed 45 stone, say the double operation has saved their lives.

They had the keyhole surgery at Peterborough District Hospital on June 17 last year, and have dropped 8st and 6st 5lbs respectively in less than a year.

I need gastric band on NHS or I will die, says 34-stone man

A 34-STONE man fears he will die after health chiefs rejected his plea for life-saving weightloss surgery.

Davie Adam, 40, says a gastric band or bypass is his only hope, adding: "Food is like cocaine to me. I am addicted and need help."

But NHS bosses in Fife are refusing to fund any weight-loss surgery because of cost - no matter how obese the patient.

And Davie is unable to come up with the £10,000 cost of having it done privately.

To follow to my last article, Do you really want to lose weight?, I realize there is a population out there that may not want to lose weight, but needs to lose weight.  My last article was mainly directed at those people who are at a healthy weight, but continue to obsess about losing more weight. The main reason to lose weight is not for appearance, but for health.
