 We love value for money. But when we spend that extra 30c to super-size our meals, we also super-size ourselves.
Over the past 20 years portion sizes have grown bigger and bigger. Nutritionists are convinced they've been a major contributor to our obesity problem. They've even coined a name for it - "portion creep". Look at these familiar examples of supersized portions. Leading a healthy lifestyle should not be considered by most people to be a burden, or to be a sacrifice that they have to make by refusing to eat junk food and drink all types of soda. A healthy lifestyle is the way to go, and people gorging themselves in fast food restaurant all day long should not be considered the norm. A recent investigation suggests that even the adults who have maintained a healthy lifestyle until now, who eat properly and exercise regularly, are beginning to drop in numbers, and to adopt the same destructive way of life that the vast majority already has. As opposed to two decades ago, their numbers are considerably lower.

Obese Women Should Limit Pregnancy Weight Gain to 20 Pounds

Obese women should gain only 11 to 20 pounds during pregnancy, according to updated guidelines from the Institute of Medicine.

The recommendation builds on the agency's earlier guidelines that recommend a weight gain of 15 to 25 pounds for overweight women, 25 to 35 pounds for normal women, and 28 to 40 pounds for underweight women.

War on obesity targets students
on May 28, 2009

Two state cabinet officers visited a Fayette County middle school this week to announce a grant program designed to promote physical fitness.

The Active Schools Grant will provide middle schools with $5,000 to adopt physical activity programs that meet federal guidelines, Secretary of Health Everette James announced during a visit to Albert Gallatin South Middle School in Point Marion. Schools that receive the Health Department funds will receive an additional $10,000 from various foundations, including the Highmark Foundation.
