Significant weight loss in severely obese people, on its own, seemed to improve cardiac hypertrophy and diastolic function and reduce aortic stiffness over one year, in a study that used magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to track changes in fat mass and ventricular volumes, mass, and relaxation [1]. It didn't matter whether weight loss had been achieved through diet or bariatric surgery.
