Reflux damage not irreversible

Heartburn can kill.

Repeated dousing in acid and bile reflux can change the lining of the esophagus and eventually cause cancer, doctors have learned.

A fairly new procedure to burn off the portion of the lining that is susceptible to cancer is being used at the Nebraska Medical Center and Creighton University Medical Center.

The technology is called HALO ablation and is the best strategy available for defeating the precancerous condition called Barrett's esophagus, physicians say. Click here for full article.
