No Diet Gets the Credit

MOST people wouldn?t probably know how obesity is slowly but surely spreading and posing serious health-threatening diseases throughout the world, and is now affecting a significant number of Filipinos.

?Obesity is now one of the country?s worst public health problems,? says Dr. Ferdinand Samonte, one of the pioneers of bariatric surgery in the Philippines. ?It substantially increases the risk of illnesses that are among the country?s leading causes of death, including diabetes, heart disease, respiratory problems and some forms of cancer.?      

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions globally. Samonte cites World Health Organization figures that there are at least 300 million obese worldwide, 3 to 4 million of whom come from the Philippines.  Click here for full article.
