Fern Britton sparked a storm of controversy when she admitted she'd had a gastric band fitted to help her lose weight.
But the debate generated huge interest in this form of surgery - and there's likely to be more now a Swedish study has revealed that obese women who have had the operation have a lower cancer risk.
They are a third less likely to suffer cancer than those who have had ordinary weight-management therapy.
