SAGES 2009: Duodenal Exclusion Shows Promise as Surgical Alternative for Nonobese Patients With Diab

Bariatric surgery resolves type 2 diabetes mellitus in at least three quarters of obese patients within weeks of surgery, but a surgical alternative for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in nonobese people has yet to reach the clinic. Laparoscopic duodenojejunal bypass (LDJB) is emerging as a surgery that might ultimately prove to be a feasible treatment for diabetes. However, thus far, it has only been used in a handful of people, all in investigational settings.
