In the first 24 hours after her gastric bypass surgery, Bonnie Thompson felt she?d made a terrible mistake.

?I thought I was going to die,? the local graphic artist says.

She was in pain and she was in an incredibly bad mood. But her temperament was so foul that her daughter quickly realized that Thompson must have been given morphine to cope with the physical trauma of having her stomach?s capacity surgically limited to about two tablespoons.
