Rising obesity and the weight loss industry: What these trends tell us
It?s no secret that America is experiencing a national obesity epidemic. According to the CDC, in 1985 no state for which the center had data contained an obese population percentage greater than 15%. In 2005-06, the center put the nation?s obesity rate in the low 30s.
Interestingly, the nation?s ?weight loss? industry is booming. Marketdata, an independent market research firm, estimated the size of this industry at $59.7 billion in 2007, and forecast 7.7% growth through out 2008. A few decades ago, this industry was non-existent. Click here for full article.
