Question:
Is is normal to have some blood in your stool the first few BM's?

I've finally been able to have 2 BM's. I'm 5 days post-op. Both times I noticed blood when I went to the bathroom. Bright red- not too much, but definitely blood. I feel alright otherwise so I don't want to bother my doctor. I'll see him this Thursday anyway. Is this normal?    — tdrzal (posted on April 10, 2001)

The blood could be from hemorrhoids but I agree with Barb, you definately should check with your doctor.

Bright blood is typcally hemmorrhoids either internal or external or polyps etc. I would check it out anyway.. .you never know. The blood I was told to watch for is the stuff that looks more like coffee grounds because its been processed in your body.

Go to the emergencyroom or contact your surgeon immediately!!! I am not trying to scare you, but I went through the same thing. When I called my surgeon he didn't take it seriously since I was 3 weeks post-op. I ended up bleeding internally passing out several times. Since then I have been hospitalized twice in ICU requiring blood transfusions. Now they want to do a revision. I hope this helps, Good Luck!!!
