Question:
By having a diet low in protein, can ones memoglobin count be low?

Ia am 3 years post op. My beginning weight was 288 and now I currently weigh 142. However, i recently was diagnosed with having a low hemoblobin count. I was wondering whether or not a diet low in protein could cause this. I do not take any protein suppplements ony multivitamins.    — Patsy Ross (posted on July 8, 2005)

Yes, Patsy you need to be taking some type of portein supplement. It would not hurt to see your doctor about getting a b12 shot and getting you on some iron pills. Somethings have changed since you had your surgery. I had my surgery November 19, 2004. Talk to other in the support group I attend taught me a couple of things and how things are changing all the time. Try talk with your doctor and see how that goes.

Hi I am not really sure if that is caused by low protein but why aren't you eating more protein or taking protein supplements? I tried this ANY WHEY protein. It's flavorless protein. You can't even taste it when added to other things one scoop is 17g or protein you should really try it. Maybe it will help you if you have problems eating protein.
