Question:
Is this a good illustration about how much pain we are putting on our hips and knees?
Someone else on here said that for every 1 pound of body fat we put 25 pounds of pressure on our joints. I thought this would be a good illustration of just how much weight that is with every step...I weigh 279 that means that I put 6975 pounds of pressure on my weight bearing joints. This would be equivalent to a 2000 Silverado 2500 ext.cab 4WD, short bed, loaded with firewood, bikes, kids, fuel, and tounge weight from trailer which only weighs in at 6600 pounds. My goodness that seems like a lot of weight on my knees - does anyone know if this is correct or am I calculating it wrong? — K T. (posted on July 5, 2001)

I don't know if you are, but some days I feel like a truck, so it could
be.

For each one pound you are overweight it adds 3 pounds of stress to your
weight bearing joints. So, if you're 100 pounds overweight to your knees,
hips and ankles it is 300 pounds of stress. This stress will cause damage
to the joints quickly.
