Question:
Is it possible to lose more weight after a year?
I had open RNY 2/6/00, I was extremely ill until July although I was steadily losing weight. I have lost a total of 110 pounds, but since September I have not lost more than 5 pounds. I am still learning to eat correctly, I am exercising by swimming 3X a week for an hour each time, as well as doing what walking I can (legs are still very weak, can't hardly walk up stairs), and I am working with light weights. I take my protein but not as regularly as I should and I still don't like water. I am trying to increase the water, doing about 32 ounces a day, eating mostly lean turkey. Surgeon says no meat other than chicken, fish and turkey until one year out (now 11 months). I throw up chicken, don't like fish and turkey is getting OLD. I cheated and ate a little meatloaf the other night and it went down fine, also ate half a potted meat sandwich yesterday. Frankly, I feel better after eating that little bit of meat. Has ANYONE been able to "jumpstart" their weight loss to continue to lose weight after this length of time? I still have about 50-75 pounds to get down to close to ideal. I can live with what is off now but would like very much to lose the rest. Any ideas out there from anyone else who has experienced this? — Connie G. (posted on January 12, 2001)

My doctor had me eating meat at 2 months the only food that he has
requested that I not eat is steak. I can have ground beef anyway I like.
I eat all kinds of canned meats. I am 9 months post op and I am 20 pounds
from goal. The more protein I eat the better I do/feel. I was weak for
about 4 months after WLS, but have no problems at this time except some
problems with scar tissue. I would try any new food items at home in small
amounts to see how I reacted to them. I am only allowed 2 ozs of food at
each meal. See how you do and if you have no problems this close to being
a year post op I would think you would be ok, I'm not a doctor and you will
have to decide this for yourself. You have done wonderfully. Good Luck.
