Question:
Also curious on having a baby after surgury
I have a friend who had the surgery, but the tummy tuck is what is disabling her from having a baby. Something about scar tissue attaching to something that needs to expand for childbirth... not sure what. Has anyone had the surgery and not been able to have a baby, or has anyone had a baby after surgery? I am 26 and am terrified to have the surgery for this reason. — [Deactivated Member] (posted on December 3, 2000)

I have not had the surgery yet, but I did have a tummy tuck in the early
80's. I have had two children since then. I had no problem getting
pregnant or going to term.

I had my open rny 9-20-99. I got down to nearly my goal weight in about 10
1/2 months. Now, I am pregnant with a baby due in late May. You can have
babies after WLS, but it is important to wait till you are done losing, and
until your surgeon gives you the OK. I decided to put off having a
tummy-tuck till after the babies, but I have heard of other people who had
the tuck and then had a baby.

I just recently had a baby on 12/9/00. I had my gastric bypass on April
28, 1999 (I was 24 then) and I found out I was pregnant in March 2000. At
the time, I was only 20 pounds from my goal weight and was looking forward
to having my tummy tuck done. However, after seeing my surgeon and giving
her the BIG news, she told me this would be best. Instead of having a
tummy tuck then getting pregnant, she liked the ways things were going. It
makes sense if you think about it.....have the tummy tuck then get
pregnant? NO WAY.....so my stomach can get all stretched AGAIN? I don't
think so. As far as my surgeon is concerned it's really in how the
procedure is done.
