Question:
Does this have the same success rate/stories as gastric bypass?
I have been all around this site, and have enjoyed it so much I can't put it into words. I can't believe the comraderie and love/best wishes from and for everyone. I live in Canada, and I want the gastric banding. I was hoping I could get some comments from anyone who has had this procedure done. It has been so heartwarming to read comments from all of you out there. You don't know how much I needed to find this site. I haven't an emotional support system. I have cheered and cried over all the highs and lows I have read about tonight. I would especially like to here from anyone who has had this form of surgery with Dr. Joffe (sp?), in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. However, I welcome ANY comments from anyone. I feel like this is going to be good for me. I feel like I actually might have a shot at enjoying life the way I'd truly like. Thank You, Wendy — Wendy H. (posted on August 15, 2000)

great! Not to mention all the nice compliments I get! Good luck in your
quest!

You should not compair this surgery to the gastric bypass. Both are very
different. The bypass is very dangerous compaired to the Band and long
term you face severe nutritional deficiency with a bypass.
Every one is individual and should look at their own circumstances. I
thoroughly suggest a few sessions with a psychiatrist to find out WHY you
are obese to start with. Cuz if it aint a medical reason its got to be
mental. I have spent the last 6 months in such therapy preparing myself
for the Band as well as resourching the RNY bypass procedure. I am
fortunate that Britain pay for both procedures. But be careful to not look
at other peoples ''success'' and kid yourself that you will be the same.
You have to create your own story. Otherwise this wont be any different to
the thousand other fad diets us obese people try.
