Question:
What have you taken for allergies?
Hi All, I was wondering if you all could please help me. I have this terriable allergy headache and I am scared to try anything that might no do well with the surgery. I am 7 weeks out today. Should I go to PCP and get allergy tabs or what? He would not give them to me before cuz I smoked and now that I have quit I seem to have a worse problem with my allergies. Thanks in advance for you help. — Lee Ann B. (posted on March 24, 2000)

Hi LeAnn,
I take Claritin D for my allergies. I got the OK to take them from my
surgeon shortly after surgery...which I am so thankful for!! I cannot live
w/out my Claritin. I haven't tried anything over the counter, but I
imagine you could try a Tylenol Allery pill if your PCP won't give you a
prescription. Good Luck...Marni

I had my surgery in September, right in the middle of my worst allergy
season. The doc didn't want me to have post-nasal drip going down into my
new pouch while it was healing, so he started me on Dimetapp chewable
allergy tablets before I left the hospital. You have to take them every 4
hours, which is a pain, but they work pretty well for me. You have to be
careful with the 12-hour type allergy medicines because most of them are
time-released, and our shorter digestive tract may not absorb the full
effect of them. Hope this helps.

Lee Ann: I take Vancenase nasal spray for my allergies. My allergies are
confined to spring blooming most of the time. I usually only need them in
Spring, and Fall. Call your PCP and check.

Try Children's Sudafed - in liquid format. My doctor recommended
this so that the post nasal drip would stop. It is alcohol
free and sugar free and the flavor I found was grape. (Though
I do understand why the kids make faces when they take this now!!)
