Question:
Is there a certain caloric level postops should try to stay under?
I keep hearing from my dr. and nutritionist that I'll know when I've had enough, but I'm 2.5 months postop and I seem to be able to eat most anything without vomiting. I find my caloric level typically stays bout 800 calories daily; I'm losing weight (50 pounds so far), but slowly. (I do exercise daily and drink LOTS of water.) Should I drop my calorie level to try and burn more fat? (I do seem to be more hungry lately than at first.) Thanks for helping me figure this out---each of you is terrific! — charlene M. Hi Charlene: 50 pounds is great!!! What procedure did you have? It
sounds like you're doing the right things, and 800 calories is probably
about right. Good luck, and keep up the good work! Jaye Carl, open RNY

"Best" caloric level is different for different patients,
depending on their
weight, height, age and activity level. Exercise 5 times or more a week,
especially in the morning, and eat the protein first at every meal. 800
calories
seem like a good total, you should lose weight steadily with that amount.
I
think you shold relax a little you are doing fine.
