Question:
How much longer will

Yesterday, I saw my PCP and after being on Meridia & Xenical for two months and not seeing a great improvement, she's decided to "put in" a referral for me to see the WL surgeon. However, even though she said she'd put it in, she stated that she didn't believe in gastric bypass because of the complications. My question is....I've waited a little over two months for my PCP to even put in a referral - what time can I expect to wait with the insurance approval? I feel like one block wall's been knocked down and I have an even bigger one in front of me...!    — Peri B. (posted on September 15, 1999)

Hi! So sorry that your doctor is unsupportive. My PCP stated that he was uncomfortable with WLS due to complications, but he has seen the results of my dieting, and I TOLD him I wanted the referral. Any doctor who is worth his/her salt will be hesitant, because of complications that "can" occur. PUSH! If you get no support from that PCP, find a new one! It's your life, and you have to do what is best for you. Be strong, and never give up! Once you do have the referral, it varies from doctor to doctor about how long before you can get the consult, and how long after that before all the wheels are in motion. I was lucky and got in to see the surgeon in less than two weeks, and was scheduled for surgery 8 weeks from then,if all my paperwork is complete. 6 more weeks to go, and I'm on my way to a new life! You need to call who ever you are waiting for everyday until they give you what you want. Don't wait. Call them, stop by the office, write them, what ever it takes!! This happened to me and then I got smart...that's when I got some real action...they will dragg their feet as long as long as you allow them to.
