Question:
had surgery on june 4 2003 and it was covered by blue shield in need of an endocsopy

my surgery was covered by blue shield, i no longer have blue shield and i have been haveing severe acid reflux since august and i am in need of an endoscopy to find out whats going on, wouldn't blue shield be the one to cover the endoscopy since they coveres my surgery and i am having a complication from the surgery, and help would be greatly appreciated thank you so much.    — Stacey M. I dont believe they will cover anything if you no longer have ins. with them.

Once your coverage is gone with BCBS, it will not go back & pick anything relating to something they've paid for.

Once insurance is canceled they are nolonger your provider. Do you take Rx prevacid, nexium... or any perscription drug for GERD? Many of use must begin to take proton pump inhibitors for the excess acid produced by our tummys. If your not on one of these acid reducers, ask your pcp to perscribe one for you to try, its much cheeper and less painful than an endoscopy. Good luck

Who ever you have insurance now will cover the endosocopy. Regardless of 'who' paid for the surgery.

p.s If you no longer have BCBS - NO they will not pay for any medical problems you have now. The carrier you have now will. If you have no insurance no, your out of luck

No, your doctor needs to submit precertification for the procedure to your new insurance company. There shouldn't be a problem getting the procedure covered. If this is yours or your husband's (if your are married) new insurance from work the new carrier usually agrees to cover the employee with all the preexisting conditions. Your coverage with BCBS no longer exists they will take one look at a claim from you on your new condition and laugh and reject it. Just because you had surgery with them covering it does not mean in the future all claims for conditions that result from the surgery are covered.
