Question:
Can calcium citrate be taken with Centrum multi-vite? Nexium or antibiotic with vites
Each day I take 2 multi's, 4 cal citrate, 1 Nexium and right now I'm taking 1 antibiotic a day for a cold. What can be taken together and still absorbed well? I get b-12 by injection monthly and I'm getting set up for IV iron since the pills have done nothing in 8 months to bring up my levels. I should be starting the IV iron sometime in the next 6 weeks. Thanks for the advice :) — mary ann T. (posted on June 21, 2004)

Nexium needs to be taken alone..at least 1/2 before eating in the am. after
eating i would take your multi's. i would space your calcitrate 2in am and
2 in pm. you will better absorb the 2 . also as far as iron level...ever
hear of chloraphyl/ it comes in liquid and pills.i would take liquid 30cc
mix with water twice. yourll see your iron go up in less then a week. All
the best!

original poster here--to Tracy, what is this chloraphyl? Is this the same
stuff that's in plants to make them green? Tell me about the iron content?
Nothing in the library here at OH about chloraphyl.

Nexium can interfere with iron absorbtion, I was put on nexium a while back
and my iron levels dropped and I started having anemic symptoms again. How
long have you been on the nexium? that's probably why the iron pills
haven't done anything. I went off the nexium and within a week or so I
started feeling much better as my iron level came back up (iron levels take
a while to come back up)

the nexium should be taken seperate, the milti , has iron in it, so should
be taken half hour apart from the calcium ,
how many mg are the cal citrate?
you know you should be taking at least 1800 mg of calcium, due to
absorbtion issues, right ?
if youi only supplement 100% orf the RDA , youre only Getting, in usuable,
about 60% of the RDA, so with Calcium, make sure to take 1 1/2 to 2x the
RDA
for me with my cal, cit, that means 6 to 8 pills, taken 4 seperate times a
day, your body can only absorb about 600 at a time,
personally, i take centrum multi too, so heres my schedule
7 am, breakfast, protien shake, centrum multi , and iron pill
10 am , water, calcium
12, lunch 2 calcium , b 12 drops
6 , dinner , 2 calcium centrum multi
8-9 drink , and calcium
i know its not perfect, but its what works for me
my last labs cam up just fine, all is normal ,
so , im sticking with it
my doc doesnt do prenatal vitamins, he feels they dont make enough
difference, and since i have excellent food tolerances, its easy for me
to get my protien , and all in
hugs !
