Question:
Will my cycle ever go back to normal?

I am almost 5 months post and have lost 82 pds. I started my period in the middle of my birth control pills pack. I have had my period for a week and a half now. It is driving me crazy. I have always been regular. I think my bc pills may be too low. I am on a lo-ovum. I go to my GYN in a week and a half. I just wanted to know if anyone else had this problem. I hear that is a pretty common problem and usually resolves itself eventually.

Estrogen!!! Loosing weight rapidly meesses with your estrogen levels like crazy. Loosing fat has some huge relationship to releasing estrogen, but I can't remember the technicalities at the moment (Perhaps another AMOSITE will enlighten us.)Erratic estrogen levels in turn then mess with your cycle. I am having the same type of problem- it's called called 'dysmennoreha'. You can look it up if you want on the net. You will find one it's biggest cause is rapid weight loss or gain. My biggest concern with this problem is that it is a signal of not ovulating, and I want to get pregnant!! Hopefully, you don't have this same issue, so this will simply be inconvenient for a while. Your OBGYN will know what to do. Good luck to you.

Hi there, this is more of a comment sharing rather than an answer, but I too have always been regular, I never used to be on bc pills, and now I rarely see my cycle, I'm lucky if I have it a full day. Some say that is fine, but It's still hard for me to get used to a low flow in my cycle.

I thought I was the only one going nuts. The same thing happened to me. I am 3.5 months post op and started my period in the middle of my pill pack (Yasmine) and bled for 2 weeks. I am now on what SHOULD be my period and I'm feeling very drained and emotional. I am hoping this next month on the pill will correct things.

I'm SO glad to see that we are all not alone! BUT, I want you ladies to know - and this comes directly from my OBGYN- this is not a 'NORMAL' thing, but it is 'COMMON'. It is something that should be addressed with an OBGYN. You should not just 'accept it'. If this happens on a regular basis it is a sign of hormonal imbalance in the body and can be a symptom of somethigng more complex like PCOS or hypothyroidisim and should be addressed and corrected with your health care professional. I'm not saying one month of abnormal period and you're in trouble, but this happening on a prolonged basis should be addresses and treated. We're normal, we'll be fine, but we should advocate for our own health if these symptoms persist. Good luck girls and congrats to you all on your super wt loss to date. Keep up the good work!

I am on depo and had my shot the day before surgery, 08-05-03. I have been bleeding heavy now for 3 weeks. My doc says it is because of the rapid weight loss and also I am on cumidin for blood clots in my lungs. I hope it stops soon, I am going nuts here as well.~~~Amy LAP RNY 08-05-03 / -21 pounds

I think you're malabsorbing your birth control pill so that the dosage is no longer correct. I had the same problem. I always had VERY regular periods, whether on birth control pills or off. I missed a couple of days of pills while in the hospital for surgery and they've been screwed up ever since. I kept getting my period while still on the active week of pills. This made me distrust that the pill was working and I've heard other doctors inform their patient that the pill is not a viable option anymore. My PCP switched me to a higher dosage pill and that seems to be working better but I'm going to switch to the patch, which is absorbed through the skin and not through the stomach. However, that's not advised for people over 198 pounds as it's not as effective so you should look into alternate methods of birth control if you're over that.
