Question:
Does anyone have any suggestions on an exercise plan?
I live in a small town. Hickville. There is no gym. I have been doing some excerising in my house but don't really know what to do. Walking is pretty hard on my knees and feet. I have been doing some water exercises, but again I really don't know what I should be doing. I am just trying to get my heart rate up for about 30 minutes, but I want something to follow. I have lost 46 pds in 2 months. Is this good? Thanks! — peggyp (posted on June 1, 2003)

There are chair aerobic DVD or tapes that you can purchase. I do not have
too much of a problem with being on my feet so I do Walk Away The Pounds
with Leslie Sansone. It is a walk in place or march in place program. There
is a 1, 2 & 3 mile workout. I bought the DVD set at Best Buy. If you do
not have a Best Buy near you they do have an online store, maybe you can
get it thru there or find another tape or DVD that will suit you. What
about a stationary bike or street bike? Good Luck.

I want to agree with the previous post - The Walk Away the Pounds tape is
fantastic! You really do feel the difference with this tape - she shows
you how to be centered when you walk. Sounds strange to actually feel your
abs after power walking but I do. You'll be surprised how quickly you can
walk 2 or even 3 miles!
Good Luck!

Richard Simmons is great he has video tapes you can do at your own pace. I
walk with him every morining and although he is kinda weird he is
motivational and its like working out with a few friends. 46 pounds sounds
real good to me.

Hey Peggy, I would strongly recommend Curves. You can go to
www.curvesinternational.com and order the Curves book. It has a complete
section on an at home workout that builds strength and endurance. I lost
18.5 inches in three weeks. I wish you the best. Ann

They have mini cycling devices you can put on the floor and cycle from the
comfort of your couch or chair. You can find them as cheap as $15 online
for a basic no frills device to the $99 Sharper Image model with digital
displays. What makes these mini cycling devices so great is that you can
store them under your desk at work and pedal away through out the day.
<p> Another thing you can do is get a tape on Tai Chi which is 0
impact and you do get more of a work out than it looks. Tai Chi is the
favored exercise of China and you can see people all over china doing it.
It's a series of slow, controlled, resistive movements. Forinstance there
are series of "pushing" movement where you not only pretend like
you are pushing some force away but you also put up resistance to the
movement at the same time. For us fat people with stressed joints it is a
perfect form of exercise until you can move up to more aerobic workouts.
