Question:
North Jersey support/Dr. Capella patients
Can anyone share with me their experiences with Dr. Capella's office in Ramsey? Initially I liked his office and all but I feel like the waiting is driving me crazy! Having had the consult in July, I called asking for progress with my insurance etc.. & they told me if approved they will get in touch with me.... How long was your wait? I do have a tentative surgery date in February, but maybe I'm just getting anxious. Are there any other support groups like his office offers? Thanks! — Karen H. (posted on December 4, 2002)

Why haven't you been calling your insurance company? They may be waiting
for additional paperwork, they may claim they never received it, or it may
not have even been sent in until recently. You have to take control of
things.

I personally did not choose Dr. Cappella's office because his staff were
rude and didnt like to answer questions. Also, my aunts friend has
difficulties with them pre and post surgery. So, I went down the road to
Elliot Goodman, and they called my insurance company 2-3 times a day (along
with my daily call) and they kept right on top of things. It took me about
a month for approval. He and the dietitian Michele Silano offer a support
group, and I think its now located at Holy Name hospital, meetings are once
a month. Good luck, and remember to also call the insurance company
yourself. Dont worry about calling too much (it just makes them work a
little harder ) Good luck!

I had surgery 4 months ago with dr. capella. I chose him for his
experience, not for his office staff. I went through 3 denials, 7 months
and my 3rd surgery date scheduled to get approved but i finally did in
August. Dr. Capellas office sends in the info within a few days of your
visit but some insurance companies take 30-60 days to respond. You can call
the insurance company and see what stage they are in, in reviewing your
paperwork if you like. Hang in there, Dr. Capella was wonderful and
February will be here before you know it.

I did not have Dr. Cappella but I chose Dr. Daniel Davis from Advanced
Laproscopic Surgery. Their office is in Hackensack 2 blocks away from the
hospital. Their office staff is very helpful and Dr. Davis is incredible.
He is an absolute sweetheart. I went to the initial seminar in May got an
appointment to have my consultation in June and had surgery on September
12, 2002. Dr. Davis does laps and only if necessary will open you up.
When I was in the hospital I saw some patients who had the open RNY and
they were in rough shape. I was home in two days.

Thanks everybody! I was glad to hear from you all and will keep you posted
as to what insurance has to say (once I get through to them). Your
comments were very helpful and appreciated. Karen

I did not care for the way his office was run or the staff..I used Dr.
Benotti and am VERY pleased. He runs a support group twice a month in
Paramus, anyone who has had WLS is welcome.
