Question:
should i inform surgeon of my recent rny?
i'm scheduled for a vein litigation (stripping)on sept 16th. The surgery will be performed under general anesthesia.Does anyone know if it is necessary to let the surgeon or anesthesiologist know of my rny surgery in may? I'm not sure what tubes they will be sticking down into my belly and if there is a danger of damage done to the pouch by them putting anything down my throat or not.......thanks so much..... — paula T. I definately think that you should tell your surgeon. Usually with any type
of surgeon they need to be informed of your past surgical history. By you
not telling him you are running the risk of something happening. Please
tell him.

tell any surgern about it ,you should keep any dr informed about any past
surgeries ,and yes a nasel gastric tube put in with out them knowing could
possibably hurt your pouch. why would you not want to let them know . you
are the one in charge of your body and should keep your medical self
healthy,and well armed.

You need to tell ALL treating medical personel about your RNY. Some people
even wear a medic alert bracelet.

Sorry to be blunt...buh ummm..YES you need to inform the surgeon of any
prior surgeries. Otherwise they can run into major complications that
could be avoided. When I had my lap rny on 6/4/02 I advised my surgeon of
prior abdominoplasty and thank goodness I did cos he ran into mesh and told
me that could have been very serious.

I am with you all. I am scratching my head wondering why you wouldn't want
to tell the surgeon!!
