Question:
surgery 2 years ago able to eat large amounts of food, whats wrong?

As early as two months after surgery I was concerned that something was not right. At that time, I was able to eat almost 2 soft tacos from taco bell in a very short amount of time. I addressed this concern with the nutritionist that my surgeon assigned to me, but she said that it was normal. I was never instructed to return to my surgeon for follow-ups so I have not seen him since they removed the tube two weeks after surgery. I have seen a few terms such as steching of the opening or break in the staple line. Are ether of these possibilities?    — Heather N. (posted on July 29, 2002)

Heather, If you have not seen your surgeon since two weeks after surgery, have you had periodic bloodwork done? I know this does not answer your question about the quantity of food you can eat, but was concerned you may not be getting proper nutrition. I'm sure someone will be able to answer your actual question, tho.

Do you know if your stomach was transsected? If this is the case then you'd know if there was a staple line disruption because the food would go into the abdomen instead of on through the stomach. When you are transsection, the stomach is stapled in several rows and then completely cut apart, or transsected.

I cannot answer your question, but I also have the same problem and have started to regain. I have an uncontrollable appetite just like I did before the surgery. I want to be one of those folks who can't eat much. I have never had any problems as far as vomiting or dumoing with any type of food. i have even asked my doctor about a revision, but he will not consider that and says that I will have the same results if done a second time. He says that I am one of the lucky ones that is able to eat anything and tolerate it. I don't consider thst lucky anymore. Hope someone can help us soon!! I find that my willpower and control is no better now thn it has ever been pre-op. I am 2 years out this month. would like to lose 50 more pounds. I feel myself getting fat again. It is so hard no matter what to diet.

not to be mean or anything, but you probably shouldn't be hanging out at taco bell anymore. WLS is not a quick fix. You still have to work at it EVERY DAY. You've worked too long and too hard to slip back into old bad habit.
