Question:
I am 16.5 months post-op and down 187 lbs...

My question is, I am REALLY trying to live a very low-carb lifestyle (i.e. under 30 grams per day). Problem is, my diet is SOOO boring. It's usually an egg for breakfast, tuna for lunch and a chef's salad for dinner. I really miss the variety that carbs gave me. Any ideas for adding that variety back in? Any low-carb bread mixes or supplements that will add variety? I'm getting bored and only have 30 lbs. to go!!!    — Terissa R. (posted on July 12, 2002)

My husband is also trying to do low-carb with me even though he didn't have surgery. He went to a health food store and bought a loaf of bread that had a 2 slice serving for 10 grams of carbs compared to the usual one slice serving for 18 grams of carbs. I don't remember the brand name but they had several very low carb bread choices. I eat very low carb but about every 2 or 3 weeeks I eat something like rice or bread just so I don't feel to deprived then get right back on the low carbs again. I hope this helps.

Try the Carb Addicts Diet instead of straight Atkins. Total no-carb diets can become tedious. In a nutshell the Carb Addicts Diet consists of two no-carb meals, and the third meal, called the "reward meal" is a balanced meal of anything you like, but in moderation, including protein, veggie, carb, small dessert. Pre-op I stuck to this diet for months and months without cheating, it was so easy, and it worked wonders for my PCOS. Prior to going on this diet I always had irregular periods. Once I started low-carbing and controlling my hyperinsulemia, my periods became regular. I swear by this diet and my surgeon gives it the big thumbs up in keeping my carb count low now that I am postop.
