Question:
How often (and what) are you eating?

I am almost 16 months post op. I have lost 159 lbs. (313 to 154) I would like to lose another 10-20 lbs. I feel my hunger has returned with a vengeance. I usually eat every 2-3 hours. (Not a lot mind you) My weight has been pretty stable for about a month, but I want to lose more. I was "toying" with the idea of Atkins, but I really don't want to "be on a diet" - I'd rather make sensible choices (including some carbs like potatoes, low fat yogurt, etc. I'm not talking about cakes and candy). Can any successful long term post ops give me an idea of how often (and what) you eat on a daily basis? I think I eat too much (too often), but I've been "physically hungry" more often. I do take one protein shake per day. Thanks for any help.    — Lisa F. (posted on November 16, 2001)

I'm only 8 months post-op, but my daily diet normally consists of a lite yogurt for b-fast, a Lean Cuisine meal for lunch and 4 oz. of chicken or fish and 1/2 c. of complex carbs (potatoes, rice, or vegetables) for dinner. I eat a total of approximately 1000-1200 kcal depending on the day. I feel great, and the weight loss has been awesome. I'm down about 150 lbs. so far!!! Hope the info. helps.

I think quantity varies post op to post op. On a typical day, I eat a whole wheat bagel for bfast, perhaps a protein bar for a snack or lunch (depending on how busy or hungry I am)lunch is a Smart One or a sandwich on whole wheat pita, dinner is a piece of lean meat (about 6-8 oz), some veggies and two tablespoons of carb (rice, potato, or macaroni). Sometimes I have some sf Jello w/ whipped cream for a snack... It depends on the day. I guess I eat about 1200-1500 calories a day; though I don't count. I am 15 months post op.

7 yrs post-op, 150# lost, still weigh about 110#, give or take. I start my day with 30g protein supp, then 1/2 protein bar for bfast. Then 30g protein supp, and snack, maybe half a fruit or some crackers 'n cheese. Then 30g protein supp, & lunch, almost always fast food. Maybe 1 taco or part of a burger. 30g protein supp, then dinner. Maybe a baked potato with veggie or a full meal, but small quantities, like salad, prime rib, potato. 30g protein supp later. Water in between all that, of course. I shoot for 180g of protein supp/day. Don't always get it, sometimes 120, sometimes 150g. I feel like it is my barrier against regain, so it always comes ahead of food for me.
