Question:
The chart says I'm behind schedule! Will I make it???

According to the AMOS chart, I should be losing faster. I started at 407 lbs. and the chart says I should be down to 245 by now (month 7). I am only down to 267. I know, that's a loss of 140 lbs. so far, but I have SO much further to go. I'm terrified that my window will close before I can get the next 95 lbs. off! Any advice? I'm doing everything I can with protein, water, exercise, etc. ... I'm just not losing as fast anymore (about 11.5 lbs. a month now). How big is the window, anyway? Some say 12 months and others say 18 months or even longer for super-obese people like me.    — [Anonymous] (posted on October 26, 2001)

Relax! The chart is just a guideline it is an average of many people who have had the surgery. Everyone loses at a different rate according to their body. Not everyone will lose at the rate the chart shows. I certainly haven't lost according to the chart, but I am losing at a sufficient rate. And my surgeon is very happy with my rate (about 10 pounds a month). What does your surgeon say? Is (s)he satisfied with your rate of loss? 140 pounds in 7 months is just incredible! Also, I've heard of people still losing after two years. So I don't think you have to worry. Besides, I'm sure your body is trying to adjust to the rapid weight loss. You will slow down and probably hit a plateau after a while, if you haven't already. Don't panic, it happens to everyone. Just relax enjoy your loss so far, and remember it's not a race. You just have to keep doing what you are doing and things will work out. Please try to refrain from comparing yourself to others. It will only make you sad and upset. Just try to focus on all the progress you've made already. I'm sure you didn't have this surgery to obsess about weight loss, did you? Congratulations on your success so far, and good luck for continued success.
