Question:
Are you able to go up and down stairs immediately post-op?
I'm pre-op having my surgery on the 23rd (11 days) and I am taking correspondance courses by video. I'll be staying with my aunt and uncle after surgery and their tv and vcr is in the basement so I was wondering will I be able to do my schoolwork or will I need a medical extension? Thank you for your help. I didn't realize how truly nervous I would be... — Rebekah A. (posted on September 12, 2002)

I have steps in my house and was concerned about that. The Hospital brought
up Physical therapy dept and we went up and down steps in the hospital. Ask
you surgeon about that. Good Luck

Rebekah, I had surgery on 8/15 and I live in a 4th floor walk up apt in
NYC, I have done the stairs everyday since the surgery. I will say now, 4
wks post-op it is alot easier, but, you will be able to manage without a
problem

I wasn't able to go up and down stairs for two weeks. Call me a wimp, but I
was in too much pain. Can't they just bring the tv upstairs for you?

I went home 3 days after surgery and live in a townhome so I had to sets of
stairs to deal with. I would just take it one step at a time!! It took me
awhlie to get to where I was going but it was good to move around :)
