Are you able to go up and down stairs immediately post-op?

I'm pre-op having my surgery on the 23rd (11 days) and I am taking correspondance courses by video. I'll be staying with my aunt and uncle after surgery and their tv and vcr is in the basement so I was wondering will I be able to do my schoolwork or will I need a medical extension?
