Question:
Is it normal to stop having a period?
I had a medial-RNY-lap a little over 4 weeks ago. My last period was about a week before surgery. I haven't had a period since! (I'm in my early 40's.) Is this normal? I have a doctor appointment with my surgeon next week and will ask him, but till then wondered what other's experience are. — laura T. (posted on June 23, 2001)

Any kind of stress to the mind or body can effect your menstrual cycle.
Such as a woman worrying she may be pregnant could actually cause it not to
come. You have had a big shock to your system this alters horomones and
everything, some people this cause it to come early others it causes it to
come late. It is good you are going to talk to your doctor, he knows best.

My period was also about a week before surgery. It took 5 1/2 weeks before
I got another one.

I was one of the lucky ones to have my period at the time of surgery! And
did miss a period the following month. Your body has gone through alot of
stress! (emotional and physical!) I too am in my early 40's.
