Is it normal to stop having a period?

I had a medial-RNY-lap a little over 4 weeks ago. My last period was about a week before surgery. I haven't had a period since! (I'm in my early 40's.) Is this normal? I have a doctor appointment with my surgeon next week and will ask him, but till then wondered what other's experience are.
