Question:
Any ideas on what this sort of pain is caused by
I'm over a year post-op and out of the blue a sharp pain doubled me over in the middle of the night, this lasted about 10 minutes. I thought a trip to the emergency room was my only option when it subsided enough for me to get to some pain medication. The pain was in the waist area around the naval the pain was much like a charlie horse in the intestine but very severe. Any ideas on what it was? So far no more episodes today. — [Anonymous] (posted on May 22, 2001)

Contact your Dr. This was a symptom of the problem. If you are having a
gall bladder attack, if you passed a stone, there could be more. These
stones have to pass through a very tiny duct. Once they do pass, they can
cause damages to other organs. If it is not gall bladder, it can be a
symptom of something else. Get checked by your Dr.

With the pain being over the navel, I would assume the cause to be gas.
Gas pain can be very painful at times. The gall bladder is further to the
right. And the fact that the pain passed so quickly indicates a good
chance it was air moving in your intestines. Has it happened again or only
once?
