Any ideas on what this sort of pain is caused by

I'm over a year post-op and out of the blue a sharp pain doubled me over in the middle of the night, this lasted about 10 minutes. I thought a trip to the emergency room was my only option when it subsided enough for me to get to some pain medication. The pain was in the waist area around the naval the pain was much like a charlie horse in the intestine but very severe. Any ideas on what it was? So far no more episodes today.
