Question:
Do you gain weight on the pill? Does it hamper our Weight Loss?

I need some help and input please. Ok here is the scoop. In September I went in for my annual "woman thang" and the doc put me on the pill. Background, I'm 42 and never been on it as I've had a time getting pregnant at 400 lbs. So for the first time in 21 years I was put on the pill. The whole month of Sept while taking the "pill" I felt bloated and full and so I didn't take it in October. My husband and I have been talking and pregnancy would be ok (we have three adopted kids) but not now. I'm 42 years old, 231 lbs. Still want to lose more and have a panni. It was great knowing when my period was going to be while on it I admit. I have been told that you gain a lot of weight on the pill?? Is that true?? Anyone on it? Vicki's article about the pill scared me too. HELP!! I need input. The pill they have me on is Triphasyl I think is how its spelled. I really need input. Other "means" are not really an option unless you mean abstinence and well that's not an option either :) haha I mean hey I'm 231 lbs..and things are "better" if ya know what I mean :) haha BLUSH Denise Open RNY 11/8/99 Dr. Ferrari - NeWeigh Houston, TX Starting Weight 400 lbs Down 169 lbs.    — Denise S. Lots of women take the pill after WLS, especially since it is very important that you not get pregnant until you doctor clears it (usually at least a year after WLS). I am not taking the pill now, but in the past when I took it there was an adjustment period of a couple months when I felt a little queasy and bloated, but that went away. I would suggest you try to stay on it for a couple months longer and see if you feel better. I doubt it would have any major impact on your weight.

The pill can cause weight gain. However, it DOESN'T HAVE TO. By watching strictly what you eat, weight gain is not a given. Also, there are several lower dose estrogen pills, such as Alesse or LoEstrin which have a smaller chance of causing weight gain.

I am 5 months post op, and just starting taking aleese 2 months ago, for about 2 weeks I had no weight loss, but now I am back to losing about 4-5 pounds a week. I dont think you really have anything to worry about as long as you stay with a low dose of estrogen. Good Luck =) Lap RNY 7-3-02 down 105 lbs.
