Question:
What to do after appeal is sent?
My PCP has sent an appeal letter but Cigna tells me that it will take 30 days to show up in the system so they can tell me if I was approved or denied. I feel like when I call them that I am talking to someone who doesn't have a clue about answering my questions. I there someone specific I need to ask for? Help — Rudy B. (posted on January 8, 2003)

When you are calling Cigna, remember you are only speaking to a customer
service rep. They generally don't know too much about the workings that go
on behind them. Tell them to give you the number to transfer the Health
Services dept. This is Cigna's dept. for authorizations. The Rep is saying
it takes 30 days for it to show up...maybe...but some times they just don't
bother to...or know how to..look up an authorization. If that doesn't work
or if the rep hesitates or puts you on hold call back until you get a rep
that can and will help you. I'm not sure how they handle their
authorizations for surgeries, but I work with them every day for other
types of authorizations. You may even be assigned a Case Manager. Please
remember to get the names and extensions of EVERYONE you speak
with-especially when you get to the health services dept. Hope this helps!
Good luck! Feel free to email me. =)
