Question:
Will I get denied for Plastic Surgery by Cigna?
My PCP gave me a referral to see a Plastic Surgeon next month. My insurance company (Cigna) says it has to be medically necessary before they will pay for a TT or Breast Lift. I have a infection at this time,my doctor gave me a rx to take care of it. I have them often. My problem is by the time I get in to see the P.S my Rash and Boles (in my private area) will be gone, and the PS wont have them on a picture. So what will my insurance company have to go by? I think I will get denied even tho I have rashes a lot just not when i need for them to be seen....Do I have a chance to get these covered??? — Maria L. (posted on September 21, 2002)

Take a picture NOW when you have the problem. It doesn't have to be taken
by a doctor. You can then take the pictures to the plastic surgeon and ask
him to submit the pictures with his letter of medical necessity for your
surgery.

I have CIGNA PPO in NC and they approved my panniculectomy and
brachioplasty....no questions asked....within one week of receiving the
"letter of medical necessity" and accompanying photographs from
the plastic surgeon. Perhaps they simply looked at the pix and gave me an
approval based on sympathy :-) I got the same rapid approval from them for
my lap RNY. I wish you the same great experience. Good luck!
