Question:
I have been so
I had my consult in May '02 and was approved shortly after. My open RNY is scheduled for 8/14. I have quit smoking and been exercising and eating low-carb and doing breathing exercises for months, but now, 2 weeks before surgery, I am hitting chocolate VERY hard and skipping my walks and eating carbs and fried foods and feeling lousy and depressed and snippy AND I'm SMOKING AGAIN! What is wrong with me!!?? Why these self-defeating behaviors? Will I get back on track? Is there hope for me? Thanks everyone. — Rebecca T. (posted on July 25, 2002)

Bless your heart. Of Course there is hope for you! That is why you are
having this surgery. Remember you need the tool to help you. We can't seem
to do it without some help. You need to rest. For some reason we seem to
all go through so many different emotions, before and after this surgery,
but in time things will fall into place and you will be living a new life
style. You will be incouraging others going through the same things you are
going to experience.
P.S. I enjoyed myself right up till the last day for my surgery. Now I am
enjoying a new healther life style.

Ive got the same problem my consult apptoinment is 23, aug and I have been
so emotional lately that I got tired of dieting. I think in a way it sort
of a release of tension even though you feel depressed hopefully don't let
this set you back No one perfect. I think once you join a good solid
support group hopefully start going befor your surgery date so you can get
to know everyone ahead of time.
I should proberly do that too. I just hate when I don't follow my own
advice. BUT IF YOU NEED AN EMAIL BUDDY OR PEN PAL [email protected]

I have the same problem. My surgery date is August 7th. I personally think
it is stress that is making us eat and eat and eat...I have not figured out
how to stop yet...I keep gaining weight and it is very discouraging! If you
find a way to stop...let me know how to do it! :o)

Rebecca, there is nothing wrong with you. We all went thru the same thing
before surgery, almost like every day before surgery we were eating our
last meal or something. Also, what you are eating now is our traditional
comfort foods. Your also going thru alot of emotions...all normal. You
will get back on track-no question about it. Your tool is going to help to
refocus you in the right direction. 8/14 is just around the corner!
