Question:
What do I do with my denial???
I just got my denial letter today stating I was denied because I don't have proof of medically supervised diets (which isn't true). My pre approval request was sent by a out of network Dr. that I no longer want to go to. I have found Dr. Oh who is in network who last week also submitted a pre approval request for me. My question is do I appeal the denial with Dr. Oh (even though we haven't gotten an answer on his paperwork), or do I just wait and see if Dr. Oh's pre approval request is approved? It's confusing I know! Help Please! — Sasha A. (posted on August 16, 2001)

Since you are resubmitting with another surgeon, you are essentially
starting over again. But, I would check my policy manual or check with the
benefits rep to make sure.

The same thing also happened to me. I was denied by Aetna because I did not
have medically supervised diets (I did but Aetna did not have the records).
I called the surgeon's office and spoke to the lady that handles the
insurance. She sent me a medical release form to fill out so I could get
the medical records from the two doctors that I went to for medically
supervised diets. I got the forms filled out and sent them to the two
doctors. They released the medical records to the surgeon's office and they
are filing an appeal for me. Since this is the only thing the insurance
company needed I am hoping that I will be approved soon. I would go ahead
and file the appeal with the new doctor and send in all the medical records
they need to get you approved.
